I was at the kingdom, waiting for the ladies to be ready, I sat down.
"Nervous?" Austin asks taking a seat next to me.
"No, you?" I ask.
"I just hope that they aren't fakes." he sighs.
"Dear Lord if they are, I fucking swear I'll sing Come As You Are by Nirvana." I say.
"I'm almost positive that they would applaud you even if you sounded like a damn goat in labor." He says. "They're coming." he says standing up.
I take a deep breath and stand up, putting a smile on my face.
The girls came in, gracefully and poised. And they each looked different. Some with a ton of makeup, some who didn't even wear any at all. I glanced at all the girls, my eyes land on Crystal, her blue dress slightly darker than her eyes. She wore very little makeup, her blue eyes twinkling, she demanded attention, she wasn't even trying to. She caught me looking at her, 'what?', she mouthed.
I tensed up, why was I? I was going to be king. Suck it up Tobias. 'I don't know' I mouthed back shrugging. She smiled a little. 'Bullshit' she mouthed back, I smiled a bit, for the first time in what seemed like forever, it was a real one. 'You caught me' I mouthed back. I smiled at the ground, she grinned at me. No, stop, Tobias you're not going to fall in love. I scolded myself. I ran my fingers through my hair, listen to my heart or my mind. Intelligence, a king doesn't let his feelings overcome him. They were irrelevant. Meaning that they wouldn't matter.
I had been in my room, awaiting til I could go to the common room. "Be an asshole." I said to myself. I straightened my tie, running my fingers through my hair, I stepped into the hall. And I bumped into someone.
"Watch it." This lady muttered, standing up, she brushed off her blue dress...Crystal. She looked up at me, and I gave her my hand. "Oh, I-I'm really sorry, I was just sort of lost and yeah."
"That's fine." I said, she looked at my hand for a moment and grabbed it, I helped her up, "you're Crystal right?" I said casually, even though I knew her name at the top of my head.
"Yeah, um, I need to go to my room, could you maybe walk me to it? I mean I'll be in the common I just need to do something first." She says.
"Yeah." I nod. "Of course." I wanted to give myself a face palm. I'm horrible at being an 'asshole.'
"Thanks." she said smiling a little. "You're Tobias right?"
"Yeah, that's me." I said walking with her to her room, I step onto an elevator and held it for her. The short ride was quiet. No talking, no nothing.
"Thanks for walking me." She says giving me a kiss on my cheek. "See you later." she says closing her door. When she closes the door, I bite my lip, trying not to smile. I turn around, going to find the common room.
"Hello Ladies." I said as I walked in, they all shot up from their seats, going to curtsy. I raised my hand. "Please, no need to curtsy." They all nodded and sat back down, still looking tense. They looked so worried, and Austin came in.
"Hi Ladies." He swallows, "as you know, I am Prince Austin Schreave, it is a pleasure to meet you all." All the girls smiled or went and said shit like 'the pleasure's all mine.' Some shit. Crystal walks in, her dress flowing behind her. No one could compare to her, her hair was cut slightly shorter but long enough to but up. She wasn't like the other girls, she stood out.
"I'm sorry I'm late you Highnesses, I had to check something." She exclaims.
I wink at her, letting my feelings take over. I see her blush a bit, though it was definitely not that noticeable.
"That's fine Lady...Crystal was it?" Austin says.
"Yea-I mean yes it is your Highness." She corrected herself, I was glad she wasn't very good at royal requirements. She actually seemed liked a real human being. Maybe this Selection wasn't going to be so bad after all.
