After a long day of work, Tillman finally got back home to his apartment. He took off his raincoat to hang it on the rack. But just as he was about to take his lab coat off, he noticed his son sitting on the couch drawing something. He thought of making some small talk since he hardly sees Ameer anymore.
Tillman: "So, uh, Ameer. How's school for you?"
Ameer: "Fine."
Tillman: "S-so, have you ate anything yet?"
Ameer: "Yeah, mom cooked some food. I left it on the counter for you."
Despite the pouring rain, it couldn't really fill the quiet atmosphere. Tillman feels bad everytime he sees Ameer. It's a reminder of how he has lost everything because of work. He was absent throughout most of his life. In the end, he had to divorce his wife and lost custody of Ameer. Instead of resigning to a less busy position, he chose his work over his own family.
"Well...if you need anything, just call me" Tillman says as he goes to his room. This time, Ameer doesn't answer.
As for Ameer, continues on with his drawings. With raindrops and the ocassional distant thunder breaks the silence. Just as he finishes, from the corner of his eye he saw something moved. He shifted his direction to his father's labcoat thinking he might have saw something. After staring for a few seconds, he looked at the black TV screen as he went to search for the remote somewhere in the couch.
Suddenly, he saw more movement. He went to look at the lab coat again, and sure enough something was moving. He picked up his pencil and got up from the couch. Slowly walking up to the labcoat while pointing his pencil ahead of him as if he was holding a knife.
Once he got close enough, he turned his pencil around and poked the labcoat. Sure enough, it moved. He then reached his hand into the pocket and managed to pick something up.
It was...a cube?He looked at his palm to inspect the cube even more. He then hold onto it to inspect it even further. As he stared at it long enough, suddenly texts appeared on its surface. Before he could read anything, a face appeared!
Startled, he tossed the cube away. "Ow!" It said as it fell to the floor. It then moved its face to another side of the cube. "What the hell are you?" Ameer asked as he point the tip of his pencil at it. The cube then started morphing its form into a more "human" form. It had thin mechanical arms, oddly shaped legs, hair and a visor where the face is located.
As it floats, suddenly its face disappeared and mor text appeared on its face. This time, it didn't went away. "Model number: IC-78n. At your service!" it said before going back to its original face. "And, who might you be?" it asks Ameer.
"Uh, Ameer Raymond?" He responded. "Ameer Raymond, registration complete" it says. "Wait, hang on, what do you mean registration?" Ameer asks.
IC-78n: "That means you're now my commander"
Ameer: "Wait, hang on a sec. Commander? Commander of what?"
IC-78n: "Of me, of course. So what's your command?"
Ameer was taken aback, confused at the situation he currently is in. He's now registered to some kind of transforming cube AI. "Wait, first of all, what the hell even are you?" Ameer asks. It then went to search in its files. "I am Model Number: IC-78n! I am a Internecion Cube developed by Refinoc Biowaste. Despite the explanation, it answered none of Ameer's question.
But before they could go on with their conversation, they were interrupted with the sound of a door opening. In the midst of panic, Ameer told IC-78n "Shoot. Hey, couldn't you turn into a cube earlier? I want you to do that now!". And with that, IC-78n returned to its cube form and Ameer put him in his pocket.
Just as Tillman walked to the living room, he notices Ameer near the door. "Oh, leaving so soon?" He asks. "Uh, y-yeah. See you next time, I guess" Ameer answers as he quickly leaves the apartment. And so, Tillman returns to his quiet and lonely life. Meanwhile, Ameer is speed walking down the hallway with his hands in his pocket worrying the cube might attempt to escape.
As he got out of the building, instead of calling his mother and wait outside, he went to a dark alley. He took the cube out of his pocket and whispered to it. "Alright, as commander, I want you to remain in your cube form and not get out unless I call for you" Ameer stated. "Loud and clear, captain!" IC-78n happily agreed to. Ameer then pondered on the idea of a name thinking IC-78n might sound too confusing or too long to say in case he needed to summon him urgently. But as some sort of sign, his mother called him and his phone started ringing. He had the opening song of the first Mobile Suit Gundam series as the ringtone. And so he decided "Why don't I call you...Gunned?". "I may be an AI, but that's the stupidest name ever." IC-78n objected. "Well, I'm your boss so you gotta get used to it." Ameer countered. "Ughhh, fine, I still think it's stupid." IC-78n agreed as he changes his model number to "IC-78n "Gunned" ".
With that, Ameer called his mother again and the two now wait to return back home.
