It shimmers and shines in the sunlight;
it allures you, and you step in.
The water is sharp and comforting.
You close your eyes and walk deeper, remembering your world when it was rich and full and whole.
You stay as long as you can with the heat of the sun on your forehead;
but the water starts to freeze around you and the rocks turn to blades under your feet.
You slowly walk back to shore wondering if the journey was worth it.
You are now less than what you were, but at least you are on the shore again looking back in.
And you hope tomorrow will bring another sunny day.
