Two babies float in amniotic fluid in tubes, a brother and sister. A year apart. Around them, papers, documents, broken tubes and vials. Before them, stands a scientists. "You're both doing so well. To be a year apart, same mother and father, same DNA splice. And yet you're both growing and maturing at normal rates, both have remained stable." The white coat is admiring his work, from the mess around, it's clear that many more experiments of the same nature have failed. "Soon, my creations. Very soon. You will be free to help bring this world back together under the rule of the Samsara Corporation." The bubbling of the fluid can be heard, and nothing else. No other experiments are currently running, no other creations to be made. Another white coat walks in. "Just heard back from on high, he says scrap them. They're not what he's looking for." The first scientist looks taken aback. "Scrap? These amazing wonders of science? But we have been experimenting for so long. It's there a way to keep them alive?" He asks, worry clear in his voice. "Let them free, if you have to. They don't care. They just don't want them to be on the record anymore. And you can't take them home with you. You know the rules on... "pets" like these."
"...I suppose you're right."
"Suppose? You know I am. Look, I don't care what you do with them and neither do the overseers. Do with them what you want, just make sure they're not on record anymore so that we can move on to another project they put on our hands."
"Ok, I'll take care of it."
The white coat prepares a basket, puts a pillow in it and a few clean blankets. He carefully removes both children from their tubes, trying not to wake them. Once in the basket, he covers and swaddles them to keep them warm and prepares to step outside into the dystopian landscape that lay before the corporation's doorstep. The scientist carefully takes the infants to the forest and lays them on the ground, covering them up as best he can. A name badge can finally be seen. "Donovan: Samsara's elite" is printed on it.
"I'm sorry my little ones. This is as far as I can take you, and I cannot protect you any longer. I hope you will find a way to stay safe."
With that, Donovan returns to the corporation. Shortly after his departure, two wolves come out of the wilderness, seeming to have been watching the scene unfold before them. They look at the babies; their ears, claws, fangs, and tails. They're human, but also abandoned cubs. Whimpering can be heard coming from the basket. The wolves look at each other and pick up the infants before returning to the wilderness, the forest is silent once again.
