Chapter 1- Sunrise Secrets.
I stared wondrously into the distance at the blooming Celandine flowers. I was lucky they meant joy to come.
My name is Eva and it is early March in the Cotswolds. The previous year had rained constantly but this year contrasted hugely, the weather continued to be endlessly sunny and the scent of spring blossoms were overpowering. The blue sky was lively and cloudless everyday and I felt like I could run forever through the meadows that consisted mostly of Damask Rose which means freshness.
Then when it reached sunset I would race up to the top of Broadway hill and watch the extraordinary silhouettes made while the sun went to bed gradually. I would watch the black Poplar sway in the light breeze, this gave me courage, physically and mentally.
My emotions would soar into the sky like a bird flying free at sunrise which I would watch with Sycamore the English bay draught horse. Afterwards I would groom him and whisper my delicate secrets in his ear. Then I would ride him bareback taking care not to squeal as we cantered gracefully over the gentle slopes in the valley of Evesham. I would stroke his muzzle while we strolled in the cool woods and I would talk to him fondly whilst the earthly moss tickled my toes.
But my favourite place to spend time with Sycamore is galloping fast and free in a dark storm upon the heath.
One night when the storm was unusually exhilarating we heard some strange chanting coming from the edge of the deep forbidden forest. Sycamore being curious ( his name is a flower and that flower means curious) decided to canter briskly of in the direction of the unearthly sounds.
I tried to control Sycamore but I felt guilty, I had tamed him myself and he was still half wild, but he had complete faith in me. Also his curiosity was beginning to rub off on me. If the "thing" that was in the forest was disagreeable or unkind then I would halt the game and we would be able to flee at a reasonable pace.
I decided to let Sycamore lead the way and I trusted his instincts. He was an extremely intelligent horse and I was sure he loved me as much as I loved him.
We reached the edge of the forest and we walked stealthily nearer while the mysterious noises grew louder every second.
Sycamore and I came to a mystical clearing where a beam of moonlight cast a light upon a most disturbing scene. A cloaked figure knelt screaming in agony, burning slowly in the shaft of light. I concentrated with all of my might to block out the unnatural looking light coming from the full moon.
The light deceased and we moved closer to the panting figure, my relief lasted for barely a second before the evil butterflies returned to my stomach.
The figure struggled to slowly stand up, as they did their cloak swished. The creature began to turn around...
