* * *"Skyler? You awake?"
I murmured a yes. We were in the Mustang, with me sitting shotgun. Jackson sat behind the wheel, glancing over at me every few moments. My head rested against the window, and slightly ached.
"How long was I out?"
"A few hours. You've been asleep since Alabama." He answered.
"Ugh, no wonder my head hurts."
"Well, you also got hit on the head pretty badly by that vamp. Your lucky you weren't knocked out on the spot."
"Yeah, but it still hurts like the devil." I grumbled. I arched my back and rubbed my neck. I sat up straighter, but decided against it when my head started swimming. I groaned in pain.
"I guess that means you're still hurt." He paused, gathering his thoughts. "I've found something that might be connected to The Nightmare."
I snapped to attention. Sometimes I wondered about that day way back in '94, how close we came to death, how close we were to being consumed by the terror. I think about how IT almost took everything I loved. I guess that's why I'm still scared of it, because even after everything, it's still out there. Someday, I think it'll come back, but I know I'm better prepared than I was then. I think Jackson wants revenge, but we have to wait. It's still in hiding. But now, we have a lead.
