I'm now twenty and have been surviving by myself with no rules and no love. The first two years after I ran away from my foster home were the most difficult. I didn't know where I was to sleep, to eat, but eventually a way of life saved me from dying. Killing.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

From the beginning we shall start.

At seventeen I was eating out of dumpsters and sleeping in them. I would talk to myself and try to at least keep some of my humanity.

At 18 I realized I couldn't live like this forever, it was killing me slowly. I started teaching myself fighting techniques and building muscle. That was also the year I snuck into the back door of a restaurant and grabbed as much food as I could. After the first I couldn't help but do it again. And again. And again.

I was never caught and that only fueled me to sneak and steal everything I needed.

The day that changed everything was around the time I would be turning 19. I never kept up with my birthday. I Had no space for unnecessary things like that through the pain that I experienced in my life. So I'm always estimating my age.

Anyways back to the day that changed everything.

I was snacking on something, probably stole from the bakery, when I was passing an ally way where a scream of pure fear made it to my ears. When I snapped my neck to look through the narrow ally I could see shadows dancing on the bricks of the wall.

My curiosity got the best of me and I slowly creeped against the wall to the noise.

"Just give us your wallet!!"

A raspy voice demanded.

"I DON'T HAVE MT WALLET PLEASE DON'T HURT ME! I HAVE A WIFE AND KID!!" A high pitch voice pleaded. I could hear the sobs they were making.

As I peeped my head to the side I had a better view of the scene unfolding before me. Two guys were huddling over a man who looked terrified. Blood was oozing down from his nose and mouth. He looked important, with his nice tie and hair that looked like it had been jelled. His shaven face was pretty handsome.

"DO YOU TAKE US FOR PUNKS??" One guy started yelling

"WE KNOW YOU LOADED SON!!

The other yelled!

"MAN FUCK THIS JUST TAKE IT FROM HIM!" The taller one finally concluded.

The guy on the floor seemed even more scared. My blood started pumping faster. I was excited. His face. The look of pure fear he had on his face was making me happy. I could practically feel the sparkles I knew were in my eyes.

One of the robbers reaches down ready to push the defenseless man to the floor, but before he could the man scooted back trying to escape his grasp.

The movement was so fast that the other robber reached in his pockets, pulled out a gun and shot him.

I didn't like the sound of the gun, it was too loud for my taste.

But I did like what I saw next.

Both of the robbers watched as the man took one last shaky breath before his head fell to the side and he was still. His open eyes had landed on me. Even though he was dead the mans last face his eyes saw were mine.

My heart was beating faster. I wasn't scared. I was still excited. With my adrenaline still rushing I backed away from the ally and made a run for it.

I felt so free. Freer than I had ever left in my entire life. All I knew was... I wanted to try that.

No. I NEEDED to try that.

Make someone else feel hopeless and scared. I would be the one who has control over if they lived or died.

I wanted the power, and after never having any power, it would be a nice change.

As I arrived behind a dumpster my heart still racing a laugh came from somewhere inside me. It was an evil laugh, one that scared even me.
