It was a quiet night; uncanny. The sea was still, and there were no signs of life. Zoro sat on the deck, as per usual, drinking an old bottle of sake. No sound, no movement, no light. For most, this served as a perfect time to sleep. But for Zoro, it was when he was most active. He never read or anything, so he usually just drank or trained. Many nights Robin would read in the library. They hardly ever crossed paths, having reached a mutual understanding to stay out of each other's way. Zoro sat on the deck, enjoying the silence, before the kitchen door opened. He looked back.
"Oh, it's you. What're you doing in there so late." He asked.
"Brewing some coffee, to help me stay up." She said, walking closer with a small cup of coffee and a glass coaster.
"You sure you should be staying up late?"
"We all have our bad habits, right?" She said, pointing at his bottle.
He grunted. "I think drinking is a bit different than keeping yourself up." He said. Taking another sip.
"I agree, they're different. My drinks are a little stronger than yours." She teased, taking an exaggerated sip from her coffee. For some reason, though, it provoked him.
"You seriously think you could handle alcohol?"
"Much better than you could handle coffee, I'd wager."
He grit his teeth. "I think you're full of it. What are you wagering?"
"That's to be determined by the winner."
...
He loved the idea of a challenge, but coffee was a foreign matter, the smell was nice, but it'd never appealed to him. After a while it took it's effect, and he was wide awake. Robin was just as foreign to alcohol, however. The world slowed, somehow things seemed more still, and more silent than they were. He looked over at Robin, who had downed the remainder of the bottle.
"You'll regret that. I promise."
"I'm a very mature woman. I don't often regret my decisions."
"Tch...What about that stunt at Enies Lobby?"
"About as much as your stunt at Thriller Bark."
"How do you know about that?!?"
"I have my ways ;)" she said with a giggle.
He turned towards her, putting his hands on her shoulders. "That dartboard told you, didn't he?"
"Have some faith in our cook. I eavesdropped with my fruit." She said, placing a hand on his chest, lightly pushing him back. "You're losing your composure. That means I'm winning, right?"
"O-of course not! I haven't lost my composure at all." He said, slowly backing off. His focus completely changed.
"You sure you aren't losing your cool?" She asked, pushing him onto his back. He stubbornly fought every instinct to tense up.
"Never."
"Mmm perhaps your habit is better than mine. I feel like sleeping now." She said, climbing on top of him, and laying on his chest.
Of course, he wanted to wake her, but she had been up for days, and needed the sleep. I hate to say it, but I felt worried. I'll let her sleep. Ill just move in the morning. He thought, closing his eyes. He grew bored, unable to move, knowing he wouldn't be able to sleep because of the coffee. Her body was was light, applying pressure on his chest in a nice way. Her skin was warm, and her hair was smooth and soft against his skin. Looking down at her sleeping peacefully, he sighed. "I guess I lost."
