I woke up with a throbbing headache and when I tried to ease the pain by holding my head in my hands, but I noticed that my wrists were tied together behind me. I had been sitting on the cold, hard floor, leaning my back against the wall. That's when I remembered getting hit in the head and knocked out. I rolled my eyes and sighed, realizing I have been brought to an unfamiliar place.
"So you're awake?" I heard a familiar voice and looked up to see Violet. "No duh" I replied. She then slapped me in the face which only made me angrier. I got up on my feet, jumped, and kicked her in the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground. I took that advantage to kick her so she wouldn't get up, but she grabbed my leg causing me to fall as well.
I then realized the ropes that bound my wrists came loose. Whoa, such a horrid tier she is, I thought to myself. We both got up at the same time and right when I was going to punch her, my hand was snatched.
I turned around to see the man from earlier, his face was emotionless. "May you remind me why we took this girl in the first place?" the man spoke, talking to Violet. "For my revenge" she answered, "oh yeah, that's right" he said, dumbstruck.
I rolled my eyes and let an annoyed sigh slip my mouth, "Is something wrong Carren?" Violet asked, taunting. "Pfft, no" I replied, sarcastically. "Wait...Carren?" the man spoke, confused, "Carren Midford?". I looked at him like, how do you my name?
"How's your mother?" he asked with consern. "We're here make Carren regret her decision of leaving me, not to creep her out" Violet said, "anyway why are you asking her these stalkerish questions?". "I'm done working for you." he retorted, causing Violet to open her mouth to say something but, nothing came out. "Carren, do you remember me?" he asked.
"Am I supposed to?" I questioned, disappointment was written all over his face when I said that. "I'm your father" he mumbled. "Travis Keitaro?"
"Yes, how did you know?" "Mom told me about you once, but very little" "Oh well I just thought I wou-Ah!" he was cut off by Violet stabbing him in the back.
"What the heck's your problem Violet?!" I exclaimed, "You! And the last thing I need is someone else to get in the way!" she spat. "You're the one that got yourself into this mess! And you just stabbed my father!" I retorted, "Oh please, you barely knew him" "So?!".
I noticed a metal shovel leaning against the wall behind Violet. The first chance I got, I took advantage of it, running towards the shovel. Violet followed and I took the shovel as quick as I could and turned around, hitting Violet in the head with it, knocking her out.
I noticed her phone in her pocket so I decided to use it to call the police.
I was about to dial their number, but something in my mind was telling me not to. Is it pity? Do I feel sarrow? It was, after everything she did for me, help me when I was most vulnerable, cheer me up at the sadist of moments. Now that I think about it, Violet wouldn't leave me behind, she would've helped me if I decided to kill someone and needed help not getting caught.
"Violet, wake up" I shook her as I put the phone down. "W-what?" she began to wake up. "I'm sorry, and I want to help you escape" I said, with the slightest of regret, "really?" Violet asked, in disbelief. "You would've done the same" I looked down in shame, "but sooner". In response she hugged me, "I'm sorry too, Carren".
I felt guilty, was it because I helped her? Or was it because I waited so long to act? "Now go!" I exclaimed, she hesitated for a moment, "I have no where to go, my mother kicked me out when she found out about what I had done". "Perhaps I can stay with you?" she said, her voice a bit shakey, "Your mother hasn't found out, right?".
I was scared, let a killer stay with me? If anyone finds out, I will be in just as much trouble as her! But none the less, we still remain best friends, and best friends help each other. I was about to answer when I was suddenly interrupted, "Carren, no!" a faint scratch voice called, it was Travis, and he still remained very much alive.
He inched his way towards us, breathing heavily, blood being caughed out of his mouth. I can't help Violet AND have Travis-I mean Dad in my life. Well you know what they say 'family over friends'...well something like that. Although I did just meet him.
"Who will it be Carren?" Violet asked, I could tell she feared I would choose Travis, but I didn't know. "I'm going to help you Violet, but Travis will have to stay alive" I said, "understood?". "Understood." Violet answered. "Oh and even though all of this happened, please don't let our friendship change. We were happy before, hopefully it will stay that way" I declared. "Alright" she replied enthusiastically, causing me to smirk, until I noticed Travis.
"You can't make a deal with her!" I turned to my right noticing Travis. "She needs our help. Yeah she made a mistake, but it happens to all of us" I replied, "Yeah well for it to lead up to this! What of it?!" Travis said.
I rolled my eyes and letting out a sigh, "You made a deal with her, possibly to kill me". "That was before I knew you were my daughter" he said, "Oh and that makes it better" I replied sarcastically. "Well-" he said, cutting himself off, "Well what?!" I asked impatiently.
Travis fell to the ground caughing up more blood, "We have to get him a doctor!" I exclaimed and heard Violet mumble something like "I'm going to get caught", at least I think that's what she said. *sighs* I finally meet my father and this is what happens. What am to do?!
"Please Dad, I want to help you, but I need you to not rat Violet out" I said, desperate. "Okay, what am I supposed to tell the doctors when they ask about my wound?!" he asked. "You know what, I'm fine, I'm fine." he insisted, when clearly he wasn't. "No! I know what to do, say it was a hit and run. Some homeless guy ran up to you, stabbed you in the back and ran away. You didn't see his face" I explained. "Fair enough" he said.
"Violet I need you to go home, well to my house and if my mom asks, simply say I had you come over to stay in my room and I am...um..." I looked at the time noticing it was 7:00 pm, she wouldn't believe I was at the park all day-Ah Ha I got it, "I went bowling and then went to see a movie and some other activities". "Alright, got it!" she said with a smile. Oh, how I missed seeing her happiness.
Dad and I caught a taxi and we were driven to the hospital where he was then sent to a room to get his required treatment. I waited for about 2 hours and he was put in bandages. They were wrapped around his torso, but he put a shirt over it so no one would notice he remained wounded.
"Let's go, I'm fine now" he said with a smile, as if he was unfazed by the pain he actually felt. "We will go to your house first, where you will be dropped off and I will go to my home" he said. "Perhaps you should stay with me for tonight. You'll need the company" I suggested, trying not to be sentimental.
"Heh" he let out a slight laugh, "Just like your mother, doing your best to help someone in need and still remain stoic". "So do you except my offer?" I asked, "only if your mother is okay with it" he said, with generosity. "We won't know unless we ask, now will we?" I said, trying not to be too serious.
After we were done with our rediculous conversation we caught, yet, another taxi, which drove us to my house. We arrived at 10:07 pm and I realized I didn't have the house key, luckily Mom was home...as well as Violet. I rang the door bell to find Mom opening it for me. She seemed fine until she saw Travis.
When he saw her, he didn't know whether or not to smile, but he did his best to brighten the mood. "Rebecca?!" he said with excitement, but inside he feared rejection. After a moment's hesitation, Mom finally snapped back into reality and forced a smile onto her face, "Travis?" she hesitanted, "what are you doing here?". "Is it alright if I stay for the night there's been some things happening and I-" he was cut off by her kissing him, and without hesitation he kissed back.
"Eh-hem" I interrupted, causing them to pull away, "oh yeah that's right, come in" she finally let us in and there was an awkward silence for a moment until I broke it, "so he's welcome, I assume" "Ah yes " Mom replies. "You don't mind sleeping on the couch do you, Travis?" Mom asks, "Oh no, not at all" he answered.
"So what happened between the two of you" I asked, "Oh, um...we-" "Rather not talk about it!" Mom interrupted, "right" he finished. I then remembered Violet and decided it was time to go "Alright, well I will let you two figure things out and I will go now". "Yeah you do that" Dad hurried me and I went to my room.
"Hey Violet" I said as I seen her sitting on the floor, her back leant against my bed, as she played on her phone, "hey" she replied. I took the inflatable bed out of my closest, and used an air compressor to inflate it.
It was already 10:57 pm, "Well it's late, I'm going to bed, if you don't like your bed then...you can sleep with me" I said with a yawn. "I will be quite alright with this thank you, Carren. I am very grateful" she said with graditude. I simply nodded, with a "No problem".
It was 11:42 pm and I still couldn't fall asleep, but I then heard the door slowly and cautiously open. I pretended to be asleep as I noticed Travis walking in with a knife in his hand. My heart panicked as he walked closer, Violet had already knocked out so she was unaware of what was going on.
When he finally reached the bed Violet remained in, he stopped. "You are a threat to this family and I will not have that" he mumbled, more to himself than to her as he raised the knife higher. He let out a sigh and put down the knife as Violet remained asleep and he still hadn't realized I was awake, "I can't do it. Why can't I do it?" he spoke to himself with a whisper-yell.
Travis sighed and walked out the room bringing the knife with him. My racing heart began to calm down, this is certainly a night I will have no ability to sleep through. Was I traumatized, Pfft no!
I did my best to fall asleep, but fear kept me awake so almost the whole night, I remained awake.
