They said Lucas Baker needed to be taken in alive.
They sent a team of Blue Umbrella agents for this mission. It was simple, the usual bioterrorism deal, 'area potentially contaminated, individual needed alive for questioning'.
What they didn't tell her was that most of Chris's team was dead when she got there.
How was she supposed to explain to the captain that half of them were dead and she was just a novice?
Well, she couldn't tell Chris anything, because she walked into the shambling cave on her own, in the dim light without any mask equipment.
She'd already attached a mask filter from one of the corpses — sorry, Cole — but no night vision attachment.
The cave stretched deeper into despair. The molded were easy to eliminate from a distance with her assault rifle, but ammo was getting scarce. Most of the soldiers bodies were either picked clean or had spent their last clip saving themselves.
She stared down the cave through her sight. It's far too quiet down here— quiet and dark.
Regardless, she pushed into the next room. The door slammed shut behind her and she swore her heart surely stopped.
A vent from the ceiling opened up and a molded fell down, its dripping appendages squishing as it squirmed up to move. She aimed directly at its head and began to fire.
1,2,3,4 shots until, "Click, click, click." Her gun was empty.
She loaded another magazine into her rifle, dropped the empty tube in panic. She started to fire but the pullets just pelted the creatures skin— and it seemed to be unfased.
Behind her, she heard the creak of a door and sighed. Another one?
But when she turned to look, she noticed it wasn't another monster. It was Lucas.
He looked just like his photo. Sly smirk, hoodie on over his head. Even those sunken, wild eyes.
Now she was trapped — molded on one side and Lucas behind her. She'd have no choice but to turn to the psychopath, selling information about the mutamycete.
As soon as she succumbed to the treacherous horror, standing down and lowering her rifle to her side, Lucas' arm snaked around her neck. He had her squeezed in a tight chokehold, barely leaving her room to suck in short breaths,
"Heya, here's the deal, sugar-doll. I ain't killin' anyone unless I feel like it- and lucky for youuu — Today, I'm feelin' generous."
He pulled the gun from her hands, her mask following suit. The creature was drawing closer and at that point, that was her only worry, "Lucas— the—"Lucas interrupted with a crazed chuckle, his pale iris' burning into her terrified face, "Oh, almost forgot about that. Thanks for remindin' me!"
He pulled something out of his pocket, the after what sounded like the click off a button, the molded's head exploded.
The man let her go, the pressure lessening and his grip loosened ever so slightly as he tossed the mask aside. She fell to the floor in a crumble and gasped.
Lucas spoke, "Now, what's gonna happen — hehe — /darlin'/ is that yer gonna speak into that little walkie talkie thingy you got there. Yer gonna tell Chris ya got the guy, and he ain't even gotta worry,"
She stared up, scared, staring down the barrel of her own assault rifle pointed at her head. Lucas continued, "Then, Chris and his soldier boys'll get the hell outta here, and I can have my fun with youuuuu!"
He pressed the cool guns tip to her temple and leaned to grab her communication device, and clicked it on. Lucas jerked his head to tell her to start talking.
