It was dark outside, but still reasonably early. It was a Wednesday; the streets weren't as full as usual and it was probably not the day she should be drinking in the cosy bar when she had piles of work at home. Yet, once again, she was there instead of being at home, drowning herself in the memories once again.
It was weird being there all by herself. It stirred something in her, a bitter yet addicting feeling she wasn't able of ridding herself of. Maybe it was because of all the contradictory emotions she was able to feel while in there, a weird sense of forgetting while diving in the past, using the drink as an escape route. The barman didn't utter a word about the quantity, merely serving her drink after drink, unless she was already too wasted to notice him serving her water instead alcohol.
She gently shook her glass, watching the liquid going in circles. There wasn't anything else to do anyway. At least, not anything worth doing.
And so, once again, she let herself be stuck in this limbo, a mundane existence with days alike one another, without anything new, without anything old. Just a repetition of the same worthless routine, convincing herself without much success that she was working towards a goal of a comfortable life when all she really did was keep a mock objective up in the air to give herself the illusion she was still afloat when, in reality, she always came back to reminisce.
