Warnings: Body image issues

"You know, it's rude to stare." Matt said, facing away from me.

"Is it a crime to admire my handsome boyfriend?"

"No. Though I wish I could return the favor." I didn't know how to answer that because, to be honest? I couldn't help but think that I was glad that he couldn't see me because if he did, he might not like what he saw. Though he'd told me the opposite on multiple occasions, there was still that doubt. "What's wrong?" He asked when I hadn't answered after a minute.

"Nothing." I answered, quickly. Too quickly apparently because he immediately caught on. Damn him and his stupid super senses.

"It's something. What is it, beautiful?"

"How do you know?" I cringed a little because man I was being cliche. But though I could hear the sincerity of what he was saying, it was hard to silence that voice in my head that constantly told me I wasn't enough. The one that said 'of course he thinks you're pretty, he literally can't see you. He's just tired of hearing you say it over and over again'. Most days I could keep that voice from bothering me, at least on the outside; but there are days like today where it just got to be too much. "You can't see me, so how can you call me that?"

"I don't need to see you to know you're beautiful." The way he said it made it seem like it was obvious.

I pushed harder, "But how do you know that?"

"Because I know you." He answered simply. "I know that you love candles but you stopped using them because you're conscious of me. I know that you take care of your family, putting those around you's needs before your own. I know that your favorite things are lazy mornings where we don't have anywhere to be so we just lay in bed until noon. I know that you try and stay up for me so when I go out as Daredevil but half the time you're so tired yourself that you fall asleep on the couch. I know that you're not particularly religious but you still go to church with me when I ask you. I know that you're incredibly smart, and funny. And talented though you don't like to admit it." I scoffed at that. "I know you couldn't accept a compliment if your life depended on it. I know that despite your insecurities about your body, you love when I touch you. That even though you put on a tough front, you're a total romantic. I know that you are the sweetest, most compassionate person that I know. I know you're beautiful because I know you."

I had no words because that was probably the sweetest thing anyone had ever said to me and I had no idea how to react. The way he said all of it, I could tell that he meant every word. Matt may not have been able to literally see me but he didn't need to. He saw my soul, he knew me like no one else ever had.

"Do you need me to continue?" he asked "I also know that your music taste changes depending on your mood or what you're doing. I know that-" I couldn't take anymore and at that point I cut him off by kissing him. I could feel his grin against my lips as he let me control it. Before he took over and deepened the kiss.

Before it went further, I pulled away. But all I could say was "Thank you."

He gave a soft laugh, "Anytime."

I couldn't help but shake my head at myself. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you go through all of that, there's just this voice that just won't shut up and today was just-"

"Don't be sorry. Never be sorry for telling me how you feel. I wish you would tell me when that voice comes back, so I can tell her how amazing you are."

I laughed a little at that. "Its not-"

"Shh." He placed his finger against my mouth, effectively quieting me. "I love you and that's not going to change. So if you need me to tell you everyday how breathtaking you are, I'll do it. Just say the words."

I removed his finger and kissed him again, softly. "How did I get so lucky?" Matt grinned before leaning in to kiss me again.

When the kiss broke he stayed close to lean his forehead against mine. "I love you." he whispered again.

"I love you too."
