-Taylor-
Most people expect their summer to be perfect, just like I did before reality hit and my body collided with my wooden bedroom floor. "Fuck." I groaned, but refused to move. It was Saturday meaning I had no obligation to move. "Taylor!" My mother screamed, reminding me of the trip and ruining any chance of me going back to sleep. "We are leaving in half an hour." Rolling my eyes, I climbed off my floor slowly, I grabbed my chosen outfit for the day which consisted of my normal cut off shorts and v neck shirt and went for a quick shower.
Once I was dressed and ready to go, I got my duffel bag, laptop bag and massive bag of mixed candy, before heading down to the kitchen. "So, are you ok with riding with Tay?" I heard my mother ask, I got to the kitchen entrance to find her speaking to a tall male figure who I knew was Alexander.
"Hell no" I answered for him, dropping my duffle next to me on the floor as both of them turned to look at me. There was no way I was letting him in Delilah.
"Come on sweetheart, I am not that bad to be around." He smirked, looking over my outfit.
"My deteriorating eye sight says otherwise." Snapping at the boy, resisting the urge to stick my tongue out at him like a child.
"That is enough Taylor!" My mother cut in, giving me a sharp look. "Alexander is driving with you and that is final. Now grab your things and take Alexander out to Delilah."
"Delilah?" Alex looked at me in confusion.
"My car, you tiny tool." I snapped at him as my mother sighed.
"Alex, why don't you go and wait at the car? I need to have a talk with Taylor." My mother's voice was filled with annoyance, not that that was anything new. Alex shot me a wink as he walked past and I rolled my eyes back.
"Are you crazy?" I asked, not caring if Alex was still in ear shot or not. "First you tell me that they are tagging along, now you want me to spend the 5 hour drive with him, too? Are you trying to get me killed?"
"I just don't want you doing the drive by yourself." My mother snapped, throwing a few drinks into a small cooler.
"I won't be by myself, I have butterball." I argued, looking down at our Labrador puppy that had just come through the back doggy door.
"Taylor, I said no and that is final." My mother snapped one final time, handing me the cooler. "It will also give you to time to reconnect. Now go."
"I deserve a raise in my allowance." I muttered, taking the cooler off the bench and lead butter ball outside, where I found Alexander leaning up against my 2003 sky blue vw beetle that was parked in the driveway. I will admit, he did look good in a pair of kayak shorts and an old green day shirt. At least his music taste had improved. "Get off Delilah, before I kick your ass."
"I would love to see you try." He smirked, not moving an inch.
"I am the one who is driving, and the passenger seatbelt isn't exactly, how you say reliable, especially with assholes like you, so move or I will suddenly slam the on the brake when we are driving along the highway." I snapped, moving to put my bags into the car.
"Someone is feisty this morning." Alex chuckled, patting Butterball who was soaking up the attention.
"Someone is a prick th- oh no wait, that is every day for you." I retorted, and motioned for him to throw his bags into the trunk
"Do you always have to be a grade A bitch?" He asked me after he had out his bags in, standing a little too close to me.
"I don't know, do you always have to be a Jackass?" I responded, sarcasm dripping through my voice as I closed the trunk and headed to my car door.
"We used to be friends you know." I heard him mutter, I ignored him and climbed inside.

"Here are the rules of being in my car." I spoke in a fake sweet voice, as we merged on to the highway, turning the music down to make sure he could hear me. "One, No you cannot choose the music and you are not allowed to complain. Two, no feet on my dash and 3. Don't talk to me at all. Breaking these rules, and I will not hesitate to pull over and kick you out or hit you."
"Sweetheart." He said, leaning over and whispering into my ear, as shivers went down my spine when he spoke again. "I am a rule breaker, where as you are not and wouldn't have the guts to touch me."
"Wanna bet?" I asked when he had moved away, I could see him nod from the corner of my eye. I balled my right hand into a fist and punched his left arm square on, without looking away from the road. "Oops, my fist slipped."
~
"Stop changing the goddamn song!" I growled at Alexander for the 1000th time this trip, I had been letting it go, but I was about to crack. We were only 2 hours in and still had 3 to go. My mother wanted us to bond. Reconnect. The only thing that will be connecting is my shoe and his ass. "Do it again, and you can walk the rest of the way."
"You wouldn't dare kick me about of this car, Taylor." He smirked, changing the song from Blink 182 to new found glory. I quickly checked my rear vision mirror to see if anyone was behind me, luckily there wasn't, so I put my foot a little too hard on the brake, causing the car to come to a complete stop.
"Get out." I ordered, looking over at him, unamused. He thought he was always right and that I didn't have the guts, but he was about to be proven wrong.
"You can't be serious?" He looked at me as if I was the one who needed to be locked up in a mental asylum.
"Oh, but I am." I deadpanned a he continued to study my face to see if I would crack. "Now get out, mom should be long with your parents soon, they'll pick you up." Surprisingly he got out of the car, butterball instantly jumping over from the backseat to the passenger one as Alex shut the door and I sped off, laughing as I saw him screaming at me from the rear vision mirror, leaving him in the middle of nowhere. Well, he was warned.
