Prom

I couldn't believe it; TODAY WAS THE DAY, TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY.

I don't think I could have been happier if I had tried.

Alright, I could have if I'd really tried.

I was going to prom, and not only that, but I was going to prom with the most stunning girl imaginable.

Since I was just a regular guy and she was the most attractive girl in school, I must admit that I'm amazed she said yes.

William Thone is my name, pronounced tonne.

Destiny Jones is the girl I'm going with.

You could say, 'I have a date with Destiny', a saying that is now true for me.

Destiny looks as though she recently returned from a tropical vacation. Her eyes have an emerald-like hue. Her curly, milk chocolate-coloured hair falls to her shoulders, perfectly framing her face.

Schools are a wonderful place to start if I were to tell you about my life.

My school is a typical secondary school, complete with nerds, jocks, popular kids, and nobody kids, among other cliques and groups. I belonged to the jocks. I was not a sporty guy in the slightest, but my antics were what made the boys on the football team like me. I did it to everyone, including them, because they always found me humorous. I will admit that I have gotten into trouble once or twice for doing this to the teachers at school, some of whom sadly lack a sense of humour.

Apart from Destiny, I don't spend time with anyone outside school because the footballers are attempting to get scholarships, so they don't have time to meet, and the athletes are always constantly practicing, which leaves them little time to socialise.

Most of my spare time is spent with my mom—the only other person in my life besides Destiny—and I didn't find the situation of the jock's absence problematic.

On hot, sunny days, I used to spend most of my time outside before I spent time with Destiny. On every other day, I was inactive and spent most of my time watching TV shows with my mother. Occasionally, I would also help her out around the house.

I'm an only child with only one parent, so I'm not sure who my father is. I never bothered to ask about him or care. Why should I care about him since he abandoned my mother and me, which probably indicates he didn't care?

My mother is the most brilliant person in the world. You would love her instantly if you met her. Despite working nine hours a day, five days a week, she never lets you know how exhausted she is. She works full-time at a neighbouring zoo as a gift shop employee, and occasionally she puts in extra hours to make ends meet. I'm worried I can't help because my mother never admits that we suffer, but I can see it in her eyes.

Whenever I get together with Destiny, we normally go for a stroll and don't discuss anything specific. Nothing between us is ever uncomfortable, awkward, or embarrassing.

But let's go back to Destiny and prom, and how that was the happiest night of my life to date.

I had been with Destiny all day, and most people thought it was weird because we wouldn't meet until later in the evening.

The majority of people spent the entire day getting ready rather than spending the day with their date. I didn't the whole day; I didn't need more than an hour to get ready. Destiny usually says she only needs an hour, but I don't think it's necessary because she would still look stunning without that hour.

She had a purple rose corsage on her left wrist and was dressed in a purple ankle-length dress. She had curled hair and a picture-perfect appearance, akin to a princess.
