"You don't know me,
You wouldn't know me,
Because I'm not real..."
The book starts out like this.I found this book laying outside my door as it'd began to rain. So, being a good-natured person, I picked it up. The cover was bare, a black color, with no words or designs. It somehow intrigued me, so I picked it up and began to read it. It has no table of contents, or an introduction. The first words I read are these.
"You don't know me,
You wouldn't know me,
Because I'm not real..."Excuse me, my name's Annie. Anniebeth Olson. Whichever works. I live alone now, having graduated high school and moved out of my abusive home. I'm only nineteen, but I work hard and live life as well as I can. If you must know, I'm not very interested in anything.
But this book... there's something... enchanting about it.
I read further.
"I'm not real,
Just a figment of your imagination,
If you let me.
But,
If you let me,
I can become real."
"Well ok, this is weird." I say to myself. I'm sipping my coffee in the afternoon, as I've just got off my morning shift at work. I put the book down. "Maybe later." I tell myself.
I move from my kitchen into the living room, and turn on the tv.
But the book, it burns a hole in my curiosity. I must read further...
"I see you're back.
Have you come to save me?
I'm not real,
Yet.
Do you believe?"
I sigh. One thing after another, and I think I fall asleep.
~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~
"Annie..."
I hear voices.
"Annie! Annie, wake up!"
I open my eyes, but I find I'm not in ny bed. I'm in a vast meadow, full of tulips. Sitting up, I look for the voice.
"Annie!" It calls again.
"Wha- What do you want?" I ask, voice shaking.
"Annie, go into the forest."
I roll my eyes. Seriously, this is so cliche, I'm like in a movie.
I reluctantly get to my feet, and walk into the line of trees. They had suddenly appeared there when I stood.
"Annie..." the voice calls. It's soothing, and also distinctively male.
"Hello?" I call. "I'm in the forest now."
"Annie..."
"Seriously! Please stop repeating my name! Just tell me what you want!"
"Annie..."
Oh God. Really, creepy voice guy? I just said stop with my name...
I continue to walk further into the trees, losing even the sun to keep me warm.
"Annie..."
