The day had finally come. The day that he had been waiting for his whole life. The day he left for college. Yes he was nervous, like anyone is when their while life is about to change, but the excitement of what was to come made all those anxieties seem unimportant.

"This is it," Cas thought, "The first day of the rest of my life."

"Hey you almost ready Cassie?" Balthazar shouted up the stairs.

"Give me a second, I'm almost done with my hair," Cas shouted back.

" Pretty boy we don't have all day," Gabriel snarked.

Gabe and Balthazar where Castiel's brothers. They had been through a lot together and he was going to miss them dearly.

"Okay! I am coming," Cas yelled back at Gabe,

Cas ran down the stairs and there was everyone, all of the other kids he had lived with for the past eight years were waiting to say goodbye. This kids had become his family and it hurt to say goodbye. It wasn't really a goodbye though more of a see you later. He walked out the door but paused and turned around to say goodbye when all of the sudden Jodi ran out the door!

"Hey don't expect to leave without saying goodbye punk!" Jodi gave him a hug and whispered, "You have a great time and learn a lot don't forget to come and visit. She could barely get the words out through the tears.

"Thanks for all you have done for me. Thanks you for being the best "mom" I could ever have asked for!" Cas whispered back and hugged her tight.

Cas and his brothers were put into the foster care system ten years earlier. Their mom died when they were young and there dad dissapered about two years later. The neighbors called Child Protective services when they saw the boys digging in trashcans for food. Balthazar was 12, Gabriel was 12, and Cas was 8. Because Gabe and Balthazar were older they were immediately taken to Jodi's house for abandoned children but Cas was put into a foster home. He hated it and frequently ran away to find his brothers but was always caught and put into knew homes. Eventually the system gave up and let him live with his brothers. He was ten at the time and has lived there ever since. It was going to be weird not waking up to the sounds of the other kids running down the halls. Cas sure was going to miss it here, but he knew he would be back.

" You coming?" Gabe yelled as he got into the car.

"Cas got into the beat up yellow Lincoln that Gabe had saved up for for months and they drove away. All the other kids ran after the car and waved goodbye. Cas knew it wasn't a permanent goodbye but tears still formed in his eyes.

"So Castiel?" Balthazar asked, "What are you most excited for at school?"

"The parties, women and booze obviously, "Gabe interrupted Cas.

"That might be what you would spend your time doing but thats not for me." Cas rolled his eyes and looked out the window.

"Plus I didn't ask you Gabe. I asked Cassie."

"Don't you see, I can finally figure out who I am and help people. I can learn and explore and have a fresh start and maybe actually fit in for once. I will read, learn and meet people. People who can teach me amazing things and give me amazing opportunities." Cas responded

"Well try and have some fun. You have always been a stick in the mud," Gabe said looking at Cas in the rearview.

"Maybe you will meet a rich girl and marry her and live in a huge house and live a celebrity type lifestyle," Balthazar joked. (Although they all knew he longed for an extravagant lifestyle.)

"Studies come first. Plus learning is fun for me." Cas knew he wouldn't have much time for fun with his course load. Especially if he wanted to pass his classes.

"At least make friends. Like you said it is your fresh start and you dont want to be a loner. Work on those 'rusty people skills'," Gabe teased.

It was true. This was the one time he has a chance to make great friends. Cas never had many friends. He was akaward and nerdy and fucked up a lot. He was clumsy and always said the wrong things. He was teased a lot and was always kinda the outcast, never really fit in. This was his chance to change that. Even though he didn't have many in person friends, he had a lot of internet friends. He found solace with books, movies and music. He blogged about his favorite things and was actually quite popular on the internet. However he longed for a connection in real life like the one he had with his internet fans and friends.

"Also don't wear all your nerdy shirts the first few days. Don't want to come across as a nerd at first sight," Gabe hassled Cas. He did that a lot.

"Leave him alone Gabriel," Balthazar defended Cas, "You are right but its his special day."

"How much longer till we get there?" Cas asked.

"Hold your horses! We have only been on the road for a little while and its a four hour drive." Balthazar responded.

"I'm sorry. I am just excited to get there, move in and start the next chapter of my life."

"We know," The brothers said simultaneously .

"I am just gonna listen to my music," Cas said as he plugged in his headphones. Mumford and sons started playing as Cas drifted off to sleep.
