Theas Perseus Queen POV
"Robert Queen and his son Oliver Queen were declared dead this morning when their boat, the Queen's Gambit sunk during a storm Thursday evening. After over 24 hours of searching without any trace of their bodies, the reluctant Moira Queen announced a date for the funerals."
My mouth tasted dry as the words of the reporter sunk in. We were sitting in the airport waiting to board our flight back to New York City after retrieving the Master Bolt when a bored passenger turned on the news from his phone. That was the first thing that was actually audible in the bustling airport.
The sound of those words echoed in my ears as I felt tears start to form in my eyes. Bile formed in the back of my throat.
No. How? How did Poseidon, my own father, let my family die in his domain? How did I let them die in my domain?
"You okay, Seaweed brain?" Annabeth asked from the seat next to me. She looked over her book and turned to face me as her eyebrows furrowed in slight concern.
I slowly nodded.
"You're not upset about the news, are you? Don't be, it's just some stupid rich guy and his son, their deaths aren't going to affect us." Annabeth rolled her eyes at the words of the reporter.
Grover bleated as his eyes darted over at me nervously. His curly brown hair covered his small Satyr horns as he nervously chewed on a soda can.
I took in a deep breath as I held in the urge to punch Annabeth. My fingers curled around the armrest.
"Of course not," I whispered keeping the storm inside.
Annabeth nodded contentedly, her ponytail bouncing slightly as her cold grey eyes slowly crept back down to the book in her rough, calloused hands.
I abruptly got up from my seat and sat down next to Grover who had been sitting a few seats down from Annabeth and me.
He offered me an empty smile as he took my hand from my lap.
"Are you okay?" He asked, genuine concern shined in his eyes as he moved over to give me more room.
I shook my head as the big, warm tears I had been keeping in rolled down my cheeks. My hands instantly jumped up to my face trying to clear the continuing onslaught of tears. I leaned my head against his skinny, frail form as my body shook from the tears.
"No," I said simply. It was true. My father and brother, Robert and Oliver Queen had died. Died.
I heard Grover start to say something when I noticed a figure in front of us.
Standing there was an annoyed Annabeth with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face.
"The kiosk people have been calling pre-boarding, hurry up!" Annabeth said with a sigh. She walked away to get in the immensely long line.
I didn't want to get up, to deal with the Greek gods, deal with Annabeth, and meet my father, the man who killed my family, but Grover stood up not wanting to deal with Annabeth's wrath.
I begrudgingly got up from my seat. I slung my blue backpack over my shoulder and trailed after Grover.
Grover stopped and waited for me to catch up as he smiled at me comfortingly.
I ignored it, putting all of my effort in keeping myself from collapsing and bawling on the floor.
We walked through a long hallway to get to the airplane.
