(Y/Ns pov)
I rushed into the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror, my face was bright red.
"Oh, keep it together, you should be relaxing not freaking out." I said to myself. I turned on the faucet and splashed water on my face, thinking that would bring me to my senses. Can I trust this stranger? What if he isn't who he says he is? At this point my mind was full of doubt, but I shouldn't jump to conclusions, he seemed like a nice, honest guy.
Just then I heard a knock from the door, I quickly snapped out of it and stood up straight.
"I'll be out in a second!" I spoke. I grabbed some towels and dried my face, then brushed a few strands of hair out of the way before opening the door. I bowed apologetically to the woman before taking my leave.
A delightful smell filled my nostrils as I passed a stranger's cabin, I wanted to ignore it, but I couldn't help myself. So, I took a deep breath and walked over to the other passengers.
"Excuse me?" I said, "I'm sorry to intrude, but do you mind telling me where you got that delicious looking treat?"
The madam nodded and she stood up, "of course, my dear." She pointed to the left outside the doors, "take a left, then and go through four doors, there should be a dining area."
I thanked her and waved her off as I made my way back to the cabin. Jesse was still in the same seat before I left, but instead of looking out the window, he was reading a newspaper. Not really something you would see every day.
I opened the door and walked up to him, However, his gaze did not part from the paper. Feeling a bit annoyed, I lowered the paper with one of my fingers.
"Oh, hey Y/N." said Jesse, he perked up a smile and closed the newspaper. He could see my grip on my purse tighten before glancing back up. "Do you need anything?" He asked.
"I was just going to grab something sweet to eat, do you want to join?" I spoke.
"Sure." Jesse stood up and fixed his suit, "lead the way ma'am." He held his hand out directing me to the door.
He is such a gentleman, I thought. Maybe I don't need to worry after all.
I took the lead and followed the directions the lady had instructed. I opened the first door and looked around, and the area was an exact copy as the last one. I glanced back to see If Jesse was still following me, he was so quiet that I almost forgot he was there.
His eyes met mine and he gave me a slight smile. I whipped my head forward and sped up a bit. I opened the second door to a lounge room. It wasn't occupied at the time, it looked very empty, but cozy.
"you're awfully quiet, cat got your tongue?" Jesse asked teasingly.
"No, I'm just...thinking."
"What about?"
"Nothing of your concern"
Jesse didn't respond with much but a scoff.
I can't tell Jesse that I'm thinking of him...Wait why am I thinking about him?! I thought, I shook my head, this will be the death of me.
I opened the third door and stood dead in my tracks, two men were arguing about something in the distance, and it didn't look like it was going to end well.
Jesse, who didn't see me stop, bumped into me, which caused me to take a few steps forward, drawing the attention of the two men. My eyes widened as I held my breath, the last thing I wanted to happen was to get caught up in someone's shenanigans.
"Sorry, heh, didn't see you stop-"
"Sorry to intrude, we'll leave you alone." I frantically said. I grabbed ahold of Jesses' hand and walked past the men with my eyes glued to the floor.
"Hey lady." I stopped once more and turned around as a response to the stranger's voice. The man walked up to me and crossed his arms.
"You've got some nerve to speak to me like that," he said, "are you asking for trouble?"
I could hear his tone grow strong with every word he spoke. I took a deep breath and responded.
"I'm sorry sir, But I wasn't being ru-"
"Now you're back talking me?! Oh I atta" The man raised his fist which made me flinch. However, before things escalated, Jesse walked in front of me and stared directly at the man. He didn't say anything but grabbed the wrist of the stranger.
I couldn't see anything that was happening, to be honest I didn't mind it, that man's face scared me.
"How DARE you! Let go of me-" his words suddenly trembled with pain as Jesse gripped the man's wrist tighter.
"You do not want to mess with me," Jesse said in a calm, but threatening way. He leaned in closer to the stranger's face with a look of confidence, his piercing eyes struck the man and he backed away.
"Alright, alright I'm going!" The man said. Jesses' threatening eyes didn't break contact with the two strangers. Instead, he slightly smirked, which made the two exit the room.
As the door closed, Jesse turned around and gently rested his hand on my shoulder. The threatening/weary face he wore changed into a calm, self-assured look. I blushed at the sudden switch and gave him a small bow.
"Thank you..." I spoke.
"No problem," He responded. he took his hand off my shoulder and continued to walk towards the fourth door.
I followed him, looking back one more time to make sure the men really left, then entered the fourth door.
Finally, after so many doors, we arrived at the cafe area. A relived sigh escaped from my mouth as I rested my arms on the cafe bar. Jesse ordered a sweet that was being displayed on the table. It looked very tasty, however it was too much for one person, so I ordered a drink and asked to share it with him, he agreed.
We both sat down with our things and started eating. It was a very nice, sweet cake. It was fluffy and the cream was just sweet enough for my taste. I couldn't help but smile.
Sharing a piece of cake with someone I just met, what a great way to start things off, I thought to myself.
Jesse couldn't help but notice my smile, he took a bite of the cake and dramatically expressed his movements.
"Wonderful cake, and the texture is amazing!" He smirked and took a big chunk of it; I looked up at him and let out a soft chuckle.
"Hey! don't hog it all to yourself!" I stabbed my fork into the piece he was going to eat, and stuffed it in my mouth.
I stared at him while chewing, his stared at me blankly for a few seconds, but then perked up a smile.
"You know, for a detective, your personality isn't all sassy and mysterious. Then again, I've never met a detective, I've only seen them in movies." Jesse said.
I smiled and put down my fork.
"Who says I'm not sassy and mysterious," I chuckled. Our eyes met once more and continued to talk as we finished our snack.
Thank you, guys, for reading! It probably sucks but I hope you like it. It takes me a while to write so don't expect me to announce a chapter every day...This is my first book so go easy on meeee! :)
