sage's wrath.

SAGE IS A COOL SHADE OF GREEN. Sage is the colour between grey and green on the visible light spectrum. Sage is the colour of the Sunday family's living room walls and of the philodendron plant growing in their garden. Sage green had always been Harper Sunday's favourite colour and on the ninth day of August, her unknowing newborn baby girl, Sage Sunday, would become a walking incarnation of her love for the colour. Sage was now not only her name, but the green in her eyes too. Sage recalled her mother's favourite colour being the particular green because of a sentiment that usually followed the declaration. Sage knew her mother loved the colour everlasting because it is the colour of her father's eyes. Thomas Sunday always got goosebumps on his arms whenever he caught his daughter staring at him for a little too long — not because she was creepy — but because they were absolutely identical to his own sage green eyes.

As a child, Sage often found her green eyes welling up with tears at every minor inconvenience or despondency. Although in her defense, what child takes negativity lightly? By the ripe age of 17, Sage already grew accustomed to disappointment and treated it like a neighbour.... The kind that you don't get too close to yet they're still in a close enough range to engage in stifled small talk with you. When Sage practices her order in her head before walking up to the cashier to order but then she finds out her order is out of stock for the day, or when Sage had already planned out her entire life by the time she was 10 years old.... but then in the following year she receives a letter saying she's actually a witch and has to attend a boarding school in Scotland.

Sage cried her eyes out for a week after receiving the Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Being a witch was not in her plan. Sage was supposed to graduate her secondary education, and then go off to London Business School to study international business! ....And then she'd live happily with her five cats. But going off to a wizarding school in the hidden areas of Scotland? Definitely not part of her plan.

"What a joke, honestly." Joyful Nott whispered to Sage, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"What joke?" Sage whispered back, not wanting to draw the attention of the students around her.

"The fact that we're hosting the Tri-Wizard Tournament this year.... Everyone's way too excited for it honestly — especially Theo's cohort." Joyful rolled her eyes, continuing, "The Tournaments are absolutely dangerous and for losers who got peer pressured by their friends into putting their name in the goblet."

Joyful Nott always wore her heart on her sleeve.

"One day you're going to be exiled for the things you say, Ful." Sage giggled, earning a harsh slap on her upper arm from the Slytherin.

"And you're already a social outcast — so I guess that'll make two of us!" Joyful poked her tongue out at Sage as the usually reserved Hufflepuff gasped in astonishment.

Sage repeatedly slapped Joyful on her arm and ran after her after the latter started running down the corridor, a game of cat and mouse ensuing amongst the two girls. The surrounding students were barely able to dart and move out of the way for the duo as they ran through the corridor, their uncontrollable laughter louder than any conversation from the other students.

People may talk — people may think a friendship between a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff to be unusual, considering the differences of the two houses where one believed wholeheartedly in blood purity and the other acceptance regardless of whatever blood ran through your veins. Despite all the questioning and gossip of their friendship, Sage and Joyful never once batted an eye to those skeptical of their bond. Life works in miraculous ways — and miraculously enough, the pair worked just fine. Joyful often spoke up for Sage in situations where she cannot be heard, and Sage makes sure of the fact that Joyful isn't always in a constant state of angst and rage. They balance each other out perfectly. One thing Sage finds hilarious about Joyful is the fact that despite her name, Joyful Nott is literally the bitchiest girl Sage has ever had the pleasure of meeting. But it's okay — Sage loves Joyful.

After Sage ultimately caught up to Joyful due to the Slytherin girl's lack of physical ability (both of them sucked at physical activity so it was no surprise....) they walked slowly together towards the Kitchens as they had quite a bit of time to spare before curfew commenced, picking up from where they left off before Joyful's comment on how socially inept Sage was.

"Who do you think is going to represent your house in participation?" Joyful asked, curious to know which meekly Hufflepuff would be up to the challenge.

"Well.... Most likely Diggory — he does seem the sort to be the underdog of my house," Sage replied. "Handsome, a sort of Golden Boy, charisma, and endless popularity."

"Also naivety and simplicity.... If he wasn't so pretty and nice, he'd be as plain as a plank of wood and no one would take any form of interest in him whatsoever." Joyful bluntly replied, unable to mask the grimace in her face for the poor Hufflepuff.

"I guess so. How about Slytherin, then? Who do you think is participating from your house?" Sage questioned back at Joyful.

"Hmm.... I think Yaxley may be a contender." Sage rolled her eyes at Joyful's guess.

"I can honestly never be able to like Yaxley as a person. He is the walking, breathing stereotype of a pure-blooded Slytherin — uncaring, rude and crass, and downright mean to those not within his circle of friends." Sage ranted, unable to level herself as she grew angrier by the thought of Icarus Yaxley.

"Salazar! Where did that type of hatred come from?" Joyful exclaimed, slightly amused by Sage's intolerance of her housemate.

"You know what he did to me in our first year, Ful. Remember?"

Joyful gasped, "Oh! I completely blocked that out of my memory! I remember now.... OK, your hatred for him is totally justified."

Sage smiled at Joyful by her side as the pair reached the entrance to the Hufflepuff Common Room.

"Remember, tomorrow it's your turn to send me to the Dungeons." Joyful reminded humorously, already turning back and walking off to the Dungeons.

Sage snickered and shook her head, turning back to the painting in front of her as she smiled at the power Joyful had, constantly bringing out a voice in Sage that she never even realised she possessed.... And at the fact that she most definitely wasn't following Joyful to the Dungeons tomorrow night.
