Darkness... I am surrounded by it. No matter which way I twist and turn, I can see nothing.

Suddenly, off in the distance, a bright, orange light bursts into life high in the sky. This light illuminates nothing, but seems to only make it darker.

Having nothing else to do, with a rising sense of dread building up inside of me, I decide to make my way to the mysterious light. After walking for what felt like hours, but in reality was probably only minutes, the light starts to brighten. Within seconds the light looks to be growing, stopping my monotonous trudge, I look up to stare at it, only to realise it is not growing uniformly, but sending probe-like tendrils out across the sky.

The light's spread is slow, with at first only a few tendrils exploring the darkness, but as they travel further they randomly split, filling more of the darkness, some only sending out one or two branches, others splitting hundreds of times at a single spot, like a miniature copy of the original light.

As the cracks start to arc over me, a faint sound becomes barely audible. As I strain to listen, the sound grows louder, until I realise it is the sound of distant cruel laughing, wing beats, roars, and most prominently, screaming, all mixed together, in one giant mess of sound.

Frozen to the spot in fear, unable to move, cover my ears or even make a sound myself, I stay still. The sound is growing louder as I do nothing, too scared to even blink.

Then, nothingness...

(Give feedback please, I enjoyed writing this but would like to know whether it's actually any good / interesting - if you can think of anyway to improve it or if I've made spelling/grammatical mistakes please say :3 )
