"Bruce wake up!!" Amy shouted, dragging the 'p' in up. Bruce's eyes opened slowly, avoiding the sunlight beaming through his partly opened blinds the best he could. He dragged his tired half-closed eyes up to glare at his younger sister in annoyance. It was 7:22 on a Sunday morning, meaning this was the first and last day of sleeping in throughout the entire week for him, so as you can guess he was pretty annoyed. Every other day he had school or baseball practice so he didn't exactly like being woken up early on his sleep-in day.
"What could you possibly want now Amy?" Bruce replied, adjusting his eyes to the bright room. "A new family moved in down a few houses and they have a girl my age!!" Amy answered enthusiastically. "Then go say hi, you don't need to tell me everyyything that happens" he said. "I want to go meet her but mum said you have to come with me, soo pleeaase take me?" She spoke, putting on her puppy dog eyes. He sighed, knowing he could never resist her when she used those eyes. "finnee, but get out so i can change!" "Okay thank youu!! She apparently has an older brother your age so i guess you could meet a friend too!" she said smiling, skipping out of his room happily. Bruce got up and got changed, wondering what this boy was like. Would he be going to his school? Will he want to be friends with Bruce? Guess he'll have to wait and see.
They were walking down the street, Amy jumping around excitedly at the thought of a new friend. Bruce couldn't help but smile at her happiness, even if she had woke him up too early on a Sunday morning.
The siblings arrived at the once empty house seeing a moving van parked in the driveway along with boxes scattered around the lawn. All of a sudden a girl that looked around nine came running around the van and towards the gate they were stood at. She slowed down and gave Amy a toothy smile. She had bouncy curly hair that shone a luminous gold colour in the sun and freckles showered all over her face. "HII what's your name?" Amy asked, giving a wide smile back. "I'm Valarie! But you can call me val" the girl they now knew as Valarie said. They instantly clicked and began talking about what their interests were, discovering that they had quite alot in common despite only knowing eachother for 5 minutes.
After what seemed to be 10 minutes a boy with slightly frizzy, curly blonde hair walked towards Valarie. "Hey Val, ma said that breakfast is gonna be ready soon so hurry up" the boy spoke, glancing at Bruce for a short moment. "Vance this is my friend Amy!! Amy this is my brother Vance :)" Valerie said, gesturing her hands towards each of them. "um hi" was all he said. "Sorry, he's not much of the 'meeting new people' type" she whispered, Amy nodded and started another conversation.
The pair walked away leaving Bruce and Vance stood alone. "Hey, I'm Bruce! Bruce Yamada", he smiled offering out his hand to the blonde boy. "Vance, Vance Hopper" the other responded looking confused at the extended hand. Bruce pulled his hand away, figuring he's not the touchy type either. "How's the move been?" Bruce continued the conversation. "Its been alright, boring but alright." Vance answered easing up a tad, feeling more comfortable. "Would you wanna hang out later? We could go to my house while everythings settling down if you'd like" Bruce offered.
Vance locked eyes with the black haired boy nodding. Bruce only just realised just how bright blue the others eyes were. It was like he was looking into a fierce sea, but felt calm the more he looked.
After a short moment he realised he was staring and apologized, scratching the back of his neck, a faint pink spreading across his cheeks. Vance grinned, looking up at the other. He stood maybe an inch or two shorter than Bruce, only having to tilt his head up slightly to look at him. "No worries, what time later?" He asked. "Around one-ish? I'll come back to show you to my house" "Alright, see you then i guess" he said, starting to walk towards Valarie dragging her slightly away into the house. "BYE AMYY" She shouted from the front door. "BYE VALL" Amy shouted back waving ferociously, making her way toward Bruce again. The duo started their walk back to their house, bumping into each other walking along the smooth pavement.
"Soo how did it go? Met any new friends?" Their mum asked, a small smile on her face as she finished up making breakfast. "Yes! I met this girl named Valarie but she said I could call her Val, that pretty much means we're bff's now" Amy said smiling widely, taking a seat at the diner table. "That's lovely dear! How about you Bruce?" " I met Vance and i invited him over later, is that okay?" He questioned his mother, not really thinking about permission while asking the new boy. "That's more than okay sweetie, I like how you's are so welcoming to other children. My sweet babies are always so considerate." She smiled, giving them both a small peck on the cheek and setting down their plates. "Thanks mum" they both said, digging into their pancakes straight away.
"JERRY GET DOWN HERE FOR BREAKFAST!" She yelled up the stairs for her husband. A few seconds past and light thumping was heard coming down the stairs then into the dining room. He sat down after saying good morning to his children and giving his wife a kiss. He also started eating his food pulling out the daily newspaper, flicking through the pages searching for an interesting article. They all finished their food, placing plates in the sink before doing off to do their own things.
