And in the darkness, there was nothing. That was where the hellhounds were born. In the nothing. Darkness and flame, wild beings and death. And out of the darkness came gold. Winged beings with talons made of gold. Urco was the first and the strongest. After that came his sister. Scylla. Both born where fire met water. Cereberus came after, ruthless and full of fire.
Arpina was a small island covered with rocks and trees and grass. It was full of people. People who heard stories of hellhounds and huge winged beings fighting. Some believed it. Others did not. The shifters, the wielders of the elements and the healers were just some of the powers that grew among them. No one knows when the magic started. The tide would wax and wane. The people would grow fearful of the magical beings walking among them. And then the beings would grow impatient and overthrow the humans. At times there was peace.
Urco wanted control over everything. He grew hungry with power. He wanted the above and earth under his command. And he had found a way onto earth. A human, desperate during times of war, found a way to summon a hellhound. Urco possessed him, took over his body. He brought his army up, possessing humans. Cereberus followed him, his second in command. The guardian hellhound was ruthless and blood thirsty. She kept her hellhound form, huge and black with three tails and sometimes three heads. Scylla knew this wasn't the way, she knew there was to be balance. The she hound found her human form and summoned a seraph. The winged beings of old walked the earth once more. Rulers of the above, there had been seven to balance the hellhounds. Remiel was the youngest and most eager to help Scylla fight her siblings. In one final attempt to kill his sister, Urco attacked Melchior, the capital. Cereberus and Scylla fought. Remiel and Urco locked themselves in a deadly battle. But Urco was prepared, he knew he could not win with the seraph against him. A very powerful witch had showed him a spell. And he picked out three weapons. A broad sword, a bow and a three tailed whip. With the four all together, he cast the spell. But what the witch did not tell him was the price. It sent him back to the under. It took some of his power so that he could no longer possess a human. With the three weapons lost and Urco back in his kingdom, the people of Arpina picked up the pieces and moved on.
Aurelia
She woke with a start. Her alarm blared in her ear. Her fingers reached out and scrambled on the nightstand. Her eyelids stuck together. With a sigh, she found the button to shut off the alarm and sat up. Her bedroom was barely lit by the morning light coming through the shades. It was a Saturday and yet here she was awake at dawn. Her feet hit the floor. She flicked on the switch to the light in her bathroom. Green eyes focused on the mirror across from her. She looked at her short hazel hair that stuck up in the back. She pulled her fingers through it and quickly brushed her teeth. With another sigh, she pulled a T-shirt over her head. She stuffed her feet into some socks and picked up her tennis shoes by the door. The door clicked shut softly behind her. The hallway light was on. Aurelia rolled her eyes to herself. Clover was always leaving lights on. Aurelia turned the corner into the kitchen and there Clover sat. The younger girl was leaning with her elbows on the table eating a bagel covered in cream cheese. Her blonde hair was braided back away from her face. At the sound of Aurelia's footsteps, Clover raised her eyes. Brown and bright. "How do you get up so early?" Aurelia asked going over to the cabinet. "Who says I sleep?" Clover retorted. By the look at the bags under the woman's eyes she might be telling the truth. "Clover. Please tell me you did not stay up all night watching Stranger Things again." Aurelia lectured as she poured cereal into a bowl. "I would never."
"I can't believe the both of you are awake this early." In walks in Clover's brother. Sterling had the same brown eyes and blonde hair. He towered over Aurelia. Clover rolled her eyes at him. Aurelia's heart beat a little faster. He too pulled open the cabinet and poured himself a bowl of cereal. Her nostrils flared with his scent as he moved past her. "What are you guys planning on doing today?" Sterling leaned against the counter with his eyebrow raised. He mostly aimed the question at Clover. His sister didn't look at him but rolled her eyes. "You aren't hanging out with him again." The younger girl popped the last of the bagel into her mouth and pushed her chair back. "You can't tell me what to do." She stalked out of the kitchen, all muscles and anger. "I don't know how you deal with her as a fighting partner."
