I remember exactly what I was doing when it all happened. I was about to take a shower, when I had realized I left the window open. I went to close it, didn't want anyone looking at me naked.
I heard a scream. A scream of terror. A scream of fear. A scream of hopelessness. If I had went out to see what had happened, I might've been dead. I ignored it, figured it was nothing and someone else could deal with it.
Halfway through my shower, the water turned off. I still had shampoo in my short blonde hair.
"Son of a bitch!" I yelled as I tried to turn the water back on.
I got out of the shower and toweled myself off, getting shampoo on the towel. I put on my plain white t-shirt and blue jeans. Simple, but I liked it that way.
I went to my fridge and grabbed a soda.
"PG&E better turn my shit back on before my milk goes bad."
I sat down on the couch. I noticed my cell phone had a new voicemail (and no service). I decided to play it.
"Hey John, it's me, Jessica. Listen, I really like you, I do, but until you quit acting like such a child I don't think we should see each other. I mean, for God's sake, you're 25 years old! Until you start acting like an adult, I don't think we should see each other. I'm sorry, John."
"Dumb bitch." I said, taking a sip of my soda.
Suddenly, there was banging at my door.
"LET ME IN! HURRY! BEFORE THEY COME!"
The door knob shook as the yelling of terror continued. I put my soda on the coffee table and ran to my door in a hurry. I looked through the peephole and then I unlocked the door and opened it. A woman with blood all over her skin and clothes rushed in. I backed away, unsure of what to do. She closed and locked the door in a hurry. The woman had a huge bite mark on her arm. It looked like that's where some of the blood came from, but definitely not all of it.
The woman had short black hair with a blue tint that was spiked in the back, jeans, and a black tank top. Blood stained her clothes. Suddenly, I recognized her! She was Kira, and she lived down the street from me.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Shut up! They might here you!" she said in a hushed tone, and began to look out the peephole of my door.
"Well, if they didn't hear you screaming outside my door, then I'm sure they won't hear me."
"Shut the fuck up!" she said, again in a hushed tone.
"Well, sorry if I wanted to know why you just entered my house screaming and banging on my door with a huge bite mark on your arm."
Kira turned around and punched me. She wasn't really strong enough to do any real damage, but it did aggravate me.
"What the hell was that for?" I said, just as she turned to look out the peephole again.
"Good, it looks like they're passing by."
"Who? Who's passing by?"
Kira then turned to me. "You haven't heard, or seen anything?"
"No. What's going on?"
"There's dead people, walking around the streets."
"<em>Dead people... Walking around the streets..."</em>
