"crap, what are the options? i mean, probably straight. heterosexual."

"who was i in middle school? energetic, i bet. i had a lot of friends though. got along well with everyone. mom always said that the most godly people don't change all that much"

|| MIDDLE SCHOOL ||

to say matthew had grown into his own in middle school would be a lie. rather, he grew into himself from the time he could walk, born into a family where chivalry and manners weren't just expected, they were mandated. there was an unrivaled charm in his boyish looks, lankier and more smiley than most of his peers. as was the case for most tweens, his teeth glinted with silver braces, and his hair was just a bit too short to flatter his squared jaw. still, the waves in his hair emphasized it's soft glow, streaks of sand and gold and taupe, a halo.

still, his personality endeared him to most people. even the types unimpressed by his giving, "boy next door" type personality could find ideal traits in him, like his willingness to drop whatever task was at hand to talk about last night's hockey game (scatterbrained), or how he would take the trash down to the curb for every elderly person on the street (would have done boy-scouts if he had time)
most of the people he surrounded himself with in middle school weren't really ... friends? they were rowdy teammates and all the adolescent girls who had crushes on them. he didn't quite like girls, not in a repressed gay tween way, but in a "child of god also girls don't really like what i like" type of way.

DANIEL PRATCH SR.
↳ a beloved community member. born and raised in town, mr. pratch swore to do the same with his children. runs his father's car shop in town, however most people in town know him as a long-time peewee football and little league baseball coach.
ELIZABETH PRATCH
↳ a neighborhood (bitch) girlboss. she floated as a substitute until, just after matthew's birth, she recieved a position teaching biology at Madison Fare. she was known to, quoting matthew, age 11: "really love you guys. she prays for you more than she prays for me!"

|| RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS ||
matthew was a rainbow baby. when daniel and elizabeth had failed to conceive two years into marriage, he came along and existed purely to live the life they hand sculpted for him. they love him, hell, they're OBSESSED with matthew. there are no boundaries allowed. sometimes he feels smothered— scratch that, he's always felt incredibly overwhelmed by it, but they love him! even if he never escapes their watch, how selfish would he be to look aside that?

↳ a freshman, pretty standoffish towards matthew. matt doesn't press his luck, understanding a bit of that resentment. still, it's a sore spot.

↳ in the seventh grade, closer to matthew in personality and in relationship. she's his biggest cheerleader, and he'd defend her with his life.
