Hold your family close. Cherish every moment you have with them. I did not quite grasp the meaning of those words when I was told. I never worried about that, thinking all would be fine. How foolish of me!
Unfortunately, I had to learn that the hard way. Everything changed for the worst on an ordinary day. It felt like fate wanted me to learn how to depend on myself. My only family, my brother, passed away after losing his battle with cancer. It was terrible, watching him every day, fighting for his life on that sick bed.His hair was shaved off, his eyes had dark circles around them, he wasn't eating enough, and he always tried to put a smile on his face but failed terribly.
I remember seeing him struggle to breathe every day. I wish I could save him, but we had no money. We were broke, our parents were dead, and our relatives abandoned and left us with nothing. We could barely afford to pay our rent, talkless of eating.
A non-profit organization helped us, but it was not enough. And now, he is dead, leaving all alone in this gruesome place called the world.
I am scared to death. Every night, I wake up in cold sweats because of nightmares. I have been living with those since he died.
The pain never goes away. There are times when I have so much anger inside me that I feel like killing someone. Or maybe I will just take my own life to escape from reality. The thoughts keep going through my head all the time.
My heart aches even more as I sit here at this table, waiting for leftovers. All I can think about is food. My stomach growls and my mouth waters. What if I don't get any? Will I ever eat again? I try to calm down and drink some water.
I look outside, seeing that there are still people who walk by, probably heading home or work. I see one guy walking towards me. He looks normal, and seems like a nice person. I need help, right? Maybe this stranger will be able to assist me somehow.
He stands next to me and asks; "Are you hungry?"
"Yes," I replied with hesitation.
He looks at me with a warm smile and says: "Well then, follow me."
I get up and follow him. As we walk, he tells me about himself and how he is willing to help me. He's a good man, I think. He has a kind and gentle soul.
We go into an alleyway, where we find a dumpster. I'm confused and ask him what we're doing here.
"Well, would you like to make quick money?" He asked in a serious tone.
