"EVERYTHING THAT WE NEED," Sebastian says, standing up from his chair, "for this to go successfully is going to come out of whatever details I can pull out of an interaction with Blaine. I'm going to need you to talk to me, Kurt."
It's been an over three-hour conversation with them going back and forth. Kurt's tired. His social battery has depleted; his patience is wearing thin. He pushes himself out of his chair, reaching down to pick up his discarded, empty coffee cup and his bag. He feels reluctant to say: Okay, I agree. Blaine is someone that you should meet. But he knows that Sebastian is right. The only way for Sebastian to perform his role to the best of his ability is to interact with Blaine. Kurt knows there's only so much you can learn from someone's words and descriptions. Especially because Blaine is a more complex creature than one would think.
Besides, Kurt can tell that with this whole secret love confession shit, he is going to be spending a lot of time with Sebastian.
A. Lot. Of. His. Time. With. Someone. He. Doesn't. Know. Well.
He needs to trust Sebastian, and this is one of the first steps.
"Alright, fine," he sighs, picking at his bag strap.
Sebastian tilts his head, eyes narrowing. His lips part, prompting Kurt with a silent push to be specific.
Well, fuck me, Kurt thinks, rolling his eyes. Damn everyone that has ever asked anyone to be specific for putting me in this position.
"It's fine," he says, trying to keep the irritation out of his tone and from showing on his face. "I'll set up a meeting with Blaine. And yes, I'll try to be more open about everything."
The words are hanging in dead silence for several long minutes before Sebastian flashes him a partial smile. "Thank you. Now, I need to run. I'll text you later with some ideas for the admirer thing that we can narrow down once I've truly interacted with Blaine." He leaves Kurt standing at their table, tossing out his trash along the way.
Kurt finds himself letting out a long sigh, turns around, and walks out of the coffee shop in Westerville. This meeting between the two of them went differently than expected. Are there some things that Sebastian said that Kurt could tell were coming? Yes. Are there some he couldn't tell were coming? Yes again.
But there is something about Sebastian's demeanor that kept chipping away at Kurt during the drive home. Sebastian portrayed an obvious sense of superiority and snark that was similar to one Santana Lopez. He knew what he wanted and exactly how to push someone to get it. Kurt's seen it both used in different ways, and he knows that it can certainly be useful when put towards the right cause. Sebastian seems to have a strong sense of control over his comments, knowing where to draw the line before anything becomes too painful or awkward for anyone to stand.
There is still the question of why Sebastian was doing this. Sure, he said that Kurt deserved a happy relationship, but why did he believe that after knowing someone for less than a minute? It wasn't going to be all black and white with Sebastian Smythe. Once again, things were getting complicated.
When Kurt pulls into the driveway, he tries to settle the warring sides of his brain.
Sebastian has offered his services. From what I can tell, he seems genuine, empathetic, and willing to take action, he reasons, slipping out of the car seat and his feet hitting the pavement. I'm going to take him up on his offer. It's the best option I have right now.
It doesn't take long before the tiny, untrusting part of him slinks into the forefront of his mind. Are you positive that this is something you want to do? You've barely known Sebastian for a week, and you're already willing to trust him so quickly? What if he's faking? What if he's trying to hurt you? You don't know anything about him.
