*Main character's POV*
Air.
I need air.
I can't breathe.
I need to breathe.
I frantically jerk my body up and gasp for air, my eyes wide. My chest moves up and down as I breathe in air through my mouth, my hands planted on my sides to keep my body up. I can't feel my legs yet. I feel a rush in my nerves, and then this sick feeling spirals through my gut.
I hate this.
I hate how many times I've been through this.
I feel my forehead with the back of my hand only to find I'm all sweaty. I have goosebumps all over my hands. My hair is all nestled up.
I'm a mess.
I'm confused.
But I'm not surprised.
I don't know why these nightmares come to me but I've been having them for a long time. And every time it happens to me, it feels foreign, as if it's for the first time. Every time the nightmares are different, about a whole new thing, but the set-up and the surroundings are all as the previous ones. It's like they're all entirely different yet, somehow connected.
The more I think about them, the more my head hurts, and not in a usual headache way. I sweat more and more, I get pale and cold.
I look at the digital clock on my nightstand it's 2:17 am. I get up and put on my dark green hoodie. I set my hair to make it look fine. I put on my shoes and take my phone, earphones and keys. I lock my apartment's door and rush to the elevator. Deafening silence surrounds me, only adding fuel to this sick feeling
I still need fresh air. I rush out of my apartment building and take a deep breath. I unlock my phone and open Spotify, I attach my earphones to my phone and hit 'play' on my 'calm' playlist.
I look at my surroundings, it's very dark and quiet. I look in the direction of the main gate at the watchman, sleeping away. I move towards him to make sure he is really sleeping. As soon as I reach him, I wave my hand in front of his face, but he doesn't react. To double-check, I snap my fingers twice, but again no reaction. I then tip-toed my way away from him and out of the hostel.
Usually, I would go to the nearby park and spend some time there listening to music to calm myself down. I would take long walks and sometimes jog to clear my head. But today, I don't feel like doing either. I don't want to go back into the hostel.
I look at the road that leads to the abandoned building. It is said the building is haunted. I have always thought about going there, but every time there's this feeling that could be my sixth sense or something, which tells me to stay away, to run and never come back. But surprisingly, I do not feel any of that today. Instead, I feel a pull towards there. As if something or someone is calling me.
The question is, should I go there? Or should I not...
