I'm gonna say E had chemicals injected into his bones that caused them to become discolored along with all tests being done in the white room with white suits that scientists wore.
They wanted to completely deprive him of color so they went to these measures to ensure he wouldn't experience colors
Maybe he's colorblind, but I doubt that's how color blindness works
