When Ciya willingly held his hand for the first time, she had decided to give him and their relationship a chance, a chance to bloom, to thrive and see where it would take them. Ranvijay was overwhelmed that she had decided so.
Ciya had slowly started to accept the family as her own and imbibe the traditions of the family into herself. Malhotra's were a strictly traditional family and they had their rules to be followed. Women usually didnt work and only looked after the house and the well being of their husband. That is how it was supposed to be. They were called the home ministers who would look after the home and children. The men would eat first followed by women of the house.
One such day when the men of the house were having dinner and women were busy serving them, Ranvijay's father said to him,
"Have you planned to go somewhere for your honeymoon??" Ranvijay hadnt planned anything in that regard.
"Not really, I have some exam duties so I couldnt plan." he answered.
"When will it be over?" his father questioned.
"Next week probably" he answered.
"So will you go back to the college?" his uncle questioned.
"Yes for a few days" he answered.
"Bahu ko mat le jana woh yahi rahegi.......yaha rehke ghar ke rivaj seek ne do( Do not take Ciya with you, let her stay here and learn the traditions of the house)" his father instructed.
Ranvijay felt a prick in his heart. They had just decided to start a new life together and he had to go away from her. He had planned to take her with him but now he wont be able to. Ciya felt an unknown fear. She felt a fear of staying with the family without him being around. He was the only person she knew alittle. Even if she had not accepted him fully, atleast she could rely on him in times of trouble, she believed.
Ranvijay lost interest in the food he was eating. He didnt eat his dinner and when everyone walked off the dinner he walked away too. Ciya noticed his plate was as it is and she wondered if he was allright.
She took the plate with her and excused herself. She somehow felt bad that he hadnt eaten anything.
She walked to him in the balcony and she saw him smoking a cigarette. When he saw she was standing right behind him he immediately crusged the but of it and turned towards her.
"Khana layi thi" ( I got you food) she said
"Bhuk nahi hai, aap khalo" ( Im not hungry, you go and eat your dinner) he replied. Dep down he was very happy that she had noticed he hadnt eaten and had also brought him food.
"Khali pet nahi sote, kya hua hai?" ( You shouldny go to bed empty stomach. What's the matter?} she questioned.
"KUch nahi" {its nothing} he plainly said. when he raised his eyes to look at her she was still standing before him quitely.
"Tum bina khilaye nahi manogi?" { So you will not go unless i eat something?} he questioned.
She nodded in a no and she won his heart then and there. It felt heavenly to be cared so much by someone you love like crazy.
He made her sit on a chair nearby and he then took a spoonful of rice and held it before her mouth.
"Pehle aap ( We will go with you first) he said and waited for her to eat.
She took a second to process what was happening and then opened her mouth. He was waited for her to do the same to him and when she realised she took a spoonful of rice and held it before his mouth. He happily ate his dinner and that felt like the best dinner of his life.
