Chapter Two: Error

When she woke, (Name) saw nothing but white. The floor was hard and cold, like ice, and she felt herself shivering as she curled in on herself. Her head was pounding, and she simply wanted to fall back asleep. But then she remembered what had happened before she passed out.

Jumping from her curled up position, (Name) sits up and tries to take in as much of her surroundings as her eyes would permit. It was challenging, a painful throbbing beating at her skull due to the brightness of the space she was currently in. It was mildly disorienting, she thought. The white was everywhere, and you really couldn't tell what direction you were looking. Turning her head to what she assumed was 'up', (Name) saw blue strings hanging from the ceiling (did this place have a ceiling? She had no idea). They, from what she could tell, were the color of a soul type, integrity.

That... was odd, wasn't it?

Those, she realized, were the same cords she had felt wrapped around her soul before she passed out. The pressure had been unbearable, she had been rendered unconscious due to the pain. Whoever owned those strings was the one who dragged her here, obviously.

Suddenly even more on guard, (Name) looks around the space even more, and she sees something in the distance, just barely. Getting onto her feet, (Name) walks towards whatever she had seen, and once gaining her balance, she finds herself looking at little puppets.

They all looked like Sans, or some variant of him, anyway.

(Name) picked one up in her hands, and cradled the small puppet as if were one of her childhood dolls. A sudden sadness overcame her and (Name)'s eyes couldn't tear away from the puppet.

She still didn't understand why Sans tried to kill her, or why he had killed Papyrus. She worried for her father, and Gerson, and everyone else that she knew in the underground. Her father was the strongest monster in the Underground, she wasn't sure if Sans had the capability to kill him, but Asgore was trusting, and seeing Sans would make him lower his guard.

He trusted his people, and now she feared that would be the death of him.

Dropping the puppet to the ground, (Name) is overcome with a new sense of justice. She had to leave this place and return to the Underground to stop whatever madness Sans was up to. She was by no means a weak monster, despite her low HP, and she was surely able to hold her own in a battle.

(Name) didn't understand his motives, but she needed to stop Sans, preferably before he got to her father.

Eyes scanning the area, she tries to make out what may be in the distance. She had to walk quite a way just to get to the puppets, so for all she knew this place could have been endless. That was a worrying thought. She didn't possess teleportation powers like some monsters, and the whiteness of the area hindered her sight in unimaginable ways.

Huffing, (Name) closes her eyes. This was frustrating.

"ɎØɄVɆ ₣ł₦₳ⱠⱠɎ ₩Ø₭Ɇ₦ Ʉ₱."

A horrified gasp left (Name)'s lips as a rather distorted and disturbing sound invaded her ears. She'd never heard something so... creepy, before. It sounded almost like a glitch through a microphone when someone on the other end had lost connection.

Turning around quickly due to her fright, she comes face-to-face with a short skeleton. He held a certain resemblance to Sans, but he was completely unique at the same time. His bones were black, eye sockets and the tips of his bony fingers were red, and blue strings (which she noticed looked eerily similar to those hanging above their heads) flowing down from his sockets. In all reality, his appearance was rather scary, but he didn't seem all that threatening... not at the moment, anyway. (Name) could still remember the feeling of those strings wrapped around her soul, squeezing until she fell unconscious. The pain had been unbearable, and she felt terror run down her spine as her eyes focused on the red yellow of his eye and the error signs that fizzled around his body.

Was he some kind of glitch?

"Who are you?" (Name) questions. There was a shake in her voice as she continued to stare at the skeleton in front of her. He cocked his skull to the side before answering.

"₥Ɏ ₣ⱤłɆ₦Đ₴ ₵₳ⱠⱠ ₥Ɇ ɆⱤⱤØⱤ." the skeleton reluctantly replied.

She seriously doubted this guy had any friends.

Error, as she had agreed to call him, had explained the immediate situation.

He was something called an 'AU hunter'. There was something called the multiverse, and a lot of them (all of them, he had said) weren't supposed to exist. Perhaps for someone else that would have been hard to believe, but (Name) had no trouble believing the glitched out skeleton's words. She had often overheard conversations between Alphys and Sans in the Lab about such things, so she didn't find the whole multiverse thing hard to believe.

Error had explained that she hadn't been the one he'd been aiming for. He had been aiming for Sans, as he meant to eradicate their AU (as he called it, Dusttale). He hadn't exactly been gentle with his delivery of what had happened to her had he not dropped in when he did.

"ⱧɆ ₩ØɄⱠĐ Ⱨ₳VɆ ₮ɄⱤ₦ɆĐ ɎØɄ ₮Ø ĐɄ₴₮ ₳₦Đ ⱧɆ ₩ØɄⱠĐ Ⱨ₳VɆ ĐØ₦Ɇ ł₮ ₳ ₥łⱠⱠłØ₦ ₥ØⱤɆ ₮ł₥Ɇ₴ ₮ØØ," Error said, fidgeting with one of his puppets, his blue strings wrapped around what looked like to be a soul. A broken one.

"How do I leave this place?" (Name) asks, looking around the Anti-Void (as that's what Error had told her it was called), her eyes frantic and paranoid. "I need to stop him! He's torturing those in the Underground to stop a child!"

Error paused, his bony fingers poking the button eye out of one of his puppets. It must have been one he didn't like. There was a moment of hesitation before he spoke, and she could tell he was a liar.

"ł ₵₳₦₮ ⱠɆ₮ ɎØɄ ØɄ₮..."

She was angry.

Angry, but helpless.

"Why not? Why can't you let me out? You used a portal last time, right? Why can't you do it again?"

Silence fills the void, and (Name) can feel herself losing her patience. All she could think about was her father's kind eyes and nature, and how Sans was going to turn him to dust if she didn't go to protect him.

"ł ₥₳ĐɆ ₳ ĐɆ₳Ⱡ ₩ł₮Ⱨ ₴Ø₥ɆØ₦Ɇ ₴Ø ɎØɄ ₵₳₦₮ ⱠɆ₳VɆ."
