You were coming home from another long, hardworking day at school. You were so exhausted! You decided to relax in the woods nearby your house. You turned and walked into the abyss of forestry. When you came to a large fallen tree, perhaps in the near middle of all of these woods, you took a seat. You took your sketchpad and some pencils out of your back pack, then set it behind you to lean on. You began drawing the beautiful scene of forest before you. It was truly relaxing. Especially after a long day of school. Thank god it was the weekend. The spring breeze blew through your hair, and the glorious aroma of pine needles soothed you. Once you were finished sketching out your scene, you put your things away. You decide to rest for a bit. Laying back on your back pack, and finding a comfortable position, you fall into a small nap.
Once you woke, you noticed you had to have been out for quite a while now. The sun was almost all the way down, and you could see the sky growing darker by the minuet. You gathered your things, and started heading out of the woods. You walk for about twenty minuets. You didn't even realize how deep you'd went into the forest. Were you lost? No. You remembered some of your surroundings. You guessed it was the eerie feeling the now dark sky, and the noises the animals made, that made you feel as such. Not long after thinking this you hear a rustling noise behind you. You turn quickly and survey the area. Nothing. You turn back and begin walking again. Probably just a rabbit...a rabbit. You hear the rustle again. This time louder. This is defiantly too big to be a rabbit. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a shadowy figure behind a tree. You hear a loud cracking noise. You begin to pick up your pace on the pathway home. Then you hear it. That low eerie "tic...tic...tic." This is defiantly not an animal. Animals don't tic....do they? You are speed-walking, almost running now. The ticking gets louder and louder, you close your eyes, and count to ten. Once you reach ten, you open your eyes, and your outside of the forest. You run home. You finally reach your destination, and rush in the door. Your mother was still at work. You were home alone. You lock the doors, and windows. You then close the blinds, and head up to your room. You plop down on the bed, and drift off into slumber.
You wake to the faint glow of daylight flooding your room. You walk over to your window, and open it. Letting the cool breeze flow throughout your room. You take a deep breath, smelling the nice scent of the pine needles across your road. You pull back your curtains, revealing the forest front. How you loved living in front of it. You were the only house down the road from here. Your nearest neighbor was miles away. It was always quite. You liked quiet. You hear the clinking of pans downstairs, and the smell of freshly made pancakes come through to you. You take in the wonderful smell, and head down to the kitchen. Your mother was in the room. "Good morning sleepyhead." Your mother smiles. "Good morning mom." You say, and head over to the couch. You plop down, and turn the T.V on. Five minuets into your favorite show, a news broadcast came on. "We interrupt this program to bring you breaking news!" The anchor begins. "Locals around have reported that a group of middle school students went out on a hiking trail for a field trip. Four of the students were found dead, and eight are still missing. City officials are searching the area. Although, local tour guides found something at the scene of one murder. There was an abandoned wooden hatchet found still stuck in the body of 11 year old Casey Williams. Officials tested for fingerprints but found nothing. We'll get back to you later today. I'm Steven Sanders and this...is 8 o'clock news."
Fear. This is all you felt after this. You turn around, and your mother was watching from the kitchen. "That was a trail near here." She says. "That was the nature trail on McKinney street. The forest there is pretty deep. I don't want you going there." She explains. "Okay mom." You say. Then you try to forget about what you just saw, and heard. You begin watching your show again.
