Chapter Nine

Keefe's POV

The kiss was there and gone. To fast, Keefe thought.

Sophie stared at him in shock. Her face bright red. But then her hands were on his shoulders and she kissed him back. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her against him. Her arms her around his neck and he couldn't help but lift her off her feet and spin her around. She laughed against his mouth and Keefe could feel himself smile and laugh to.

He set her down and pulled back enough to see her face. He'd never really seen her eyes up close but now he can see the flecks of gold in her brown eyes.

"So..." Sophie said. "Does this mean we're officially dating?"

Keefe responded by kissing her again. "Yes." He mumbled against her lips.

Just then the door to Sophie's dorm opened and Biana and Fitz walked in.

"OMG OMG OMG!" Biana screeched. "You're finally kissing!"

Fitz looked unimpressed, but didn't say anything. And Sophie hid behind her hair, which Keefe thought was adorable.

"Y-yeah we did." Sophie says shyly.

"Ugh and to think we interrupted you guys!" Biana says. "Well we just forgot the car keys so we'll leave you two alone. Bye bye!"

And with that they were gone and it was just Keefe and Sophie again.

New Year's Eve
Sophie's POV

Sophie and Keefe had only been dating officially for nearly a week. And it was amazing. They went out nearly every night for dinner and went down to the beach to go swimming. And she was having a blast!

But she needed to tell him something really important and she figured that tonight would be the perfect time to tell him that she loved him.

She was currently sitting with Keefe in the cafeteria, Biana, Fitz, Linh and her twin brother Tam sitting with them as well when Keefe noticed her smiling.

"Whatcha smiling about?" He asks.

"Hm? Oh, nothing." She replies.

"Maybe she's smiling about ways to prank you." Tam guesses. Keefe glares at him. Everyone knows it's impossible to prank Keefe, the literal prank master.

"Maybe she's thinking about puppies!" Linh suggests. Of course Linh would guess the most innocent thing there is.

"Or she's thinking about how she'll kiss Keefe tonight at midnight!" Biana said with a squeal. Sophie and Keefe roll their eyes at the same time and laugh.

Fitz is still silent, picking at his food. "You ok Fitzy?" Keefe asks him. He looks up from his food and shrugs, then seems to be finished with his lunch and walks off.

"Weird. He's never this quiet." Biana says.

"Maybe he's the one plotting a prank on Keefe. You know what they say 'the silent ones are always the sus ones'" Tam says, grinning.

"That's not how the term goes Bangs Boy." Keefe argues. "It's- "

"Guys stop. It doesn't matter how the saying goes!" Sophie whisper-yells at them. They're always bickering about stupid things like this that it's a wonder at how they even came to sit at the same table.

"Well while you two boys continue arguing, I have to get Sophie ready for tonight!" Biana says dramatically and stands up, grabs Sophie's hand and drags her away. Linh stays with the boys though and Sophie wonders why.

"You coming Linh?" Sophie's call out to her. She shakes her head. No. Oh well.

It's only ten minutes to midnight and Sophie isn't even sure where Keefe is.

Everyone one at their boarding school has shown up for this grand party on the schools oval. There's streamers everywhere, and so many games that Keefe could be at any one of them.

She managed to sneak away from Biana and the others to find him but he seems to have disappeared.

She thinks of giving up when she sees a head of blond hair moving towards the building. And she knows just by looking at it that it's Keefe. She starts to follow him.

She shoves through crowds of people until finally she catches up to him.

"Hey." She says.

He turns toward her and grins. "Hey." He says back. "Follow me. I have a surprise."

"Ok?"

She follows him through the halls of the school and out a door into a garden. It's overgrown and wild but the flowers are beautiful and I'm the centre of it all is red and white checkered picnic blanket with some lemonade and brownies.

"What's all this?" She asks breathless.

"The surprise." He says. "Come sit."

She sits down on one of the pillows that was laid out and takes a brownie. Keefe sits across from her still grinning, but it's more shy now.

"Sophie." He starts. "I have been meaning to tell you this from the moment we started dating for real. And I think it's time I finally told you." He takes a deep breath but before he can say anything...

"I love you!" Sophie blurts. And then she kisses him just as the fire works go off.

Keefe laughs. "You didn't even let me finish!"

"Sorry I was meaning to tell you and I couldn't wait and I-"

"I love you too Foster." He kisses her again and they stay in the garden for a while, drinking lemonade and eating brownies. Telling jokes and stories. And kissing.
