Some relationships can't be saved.
Soobin knows that. He's known that since he was nine and standing in the courtroom to deliver the final hammer blow on his parents' divorce. He's known that since he was twelve and watching the neighbours argue outside for the last time, before the husband put a wall into his wife's head and drove off, only to put a bullet through his own mere hours later. He's known that since he was fourteen and Yoo Jimin left all the books he'd shared with her over the summer---their summer---on his doorstep.
("Why are you doing this?" he'd sobbed as she broke up with him on the spot.
"All books have an ending, Soobin," she'd replied. Her dark eyes had filled with sympathy then, and she'd reached out as if to change her mind---only to turn around and run back down his driveway, perfectly-polished Mary Janes leaving nothing but dust behind.)
So Soobin knows that some relationships can't be saved. That they are built out of mutual misery, destined for damnation, and meant to end the same way Yoo Jimin had ended---shot sky-high by a car's bumper on her way home from school, neck snapped in half by the long-dried tarmac, Mary Janes splattered with blood as Soobin cried so hard at her funeral that he passed out. He knows that relationships are born just to die, and falling in love is a luxury he should never allow himself to afford.
He'd fallen in love with Hueningkai anyway.
