The further we moved into the cavern, the more an internal sense of dread grew within me. The echoing silence across the tomb-like walls combined with my rather frazzled nerves from last night's encounter put me on high alert. I glanced over at Georgie, who had already forgotten the strange interaction only minutes ago with a stranger who quite frankly, I believed to be a fraud of some sort.
Crunch.
My eyes darted around, and for a few seconds, I became aware of a chill from the draft of cold air rushing softly through the ever-narrowing passageway.
"Hey, did you hear that or am I crazy?" I half-whispered, forcing a smile as I glanced behind us.
Georgie laughed, "Yeah, it's probably just the bats or something. Some of 'em are still around I think."
"I guess so, yeah." I shrugged.
There was this feeling, this sense. Someone was there, we were not alone. I am rarely wrong about this kind of thing. Sure enough, in the next ten seconds, the presence revealed itself.
Crunch.
"Ok, nope. That was not a bat."
I spun around, switching on my phone flashlight and holding it like a weapon towards the dark corner from which the sound had come from. Georgie stepped slightly behind me, and I could almost hear both of our heartbeats quicken.
"Who's there?" I said, a rather uncertain quiver in my voice as I took a step back.
Crunch.
