Lotus stumbled slightly as he stepped out on the other side of the portal. The snow underneath his boots crunched at the weight. For a split second he'd needed to lean onto a tree for support, but upon noticing a lash within the wood he quickly pulled his hand away. What a kind reminder.
Rurik had said that he'd meet him here, yet the young reaper seemed to be completely alone. As the portal closed behind him he huffed and started to make his way out of the forest he found himself in. Okay, yeah. Blowing Lotus off like that— so cool.
Lotus felt eyes on the back of his neck and he froze before his mood immediately begun to soar. A wide smile overtook his face as he dashed forward, the chase started.

It'd become a bit of a habit, this whole thing. It started out just as Rurik being late and trying to chase down Lotus when the other went to leave, but over time it became more of a game. Rurik actually started showing up on time, early even— but he never met Lotus right away.
Sometimes they'd meet up at the outskirts of the forest, or Rurik would be waiting somewhere in there with a surprise of some sort— rarely he'd get bored and just meet them halfway before walking out together. Sometimes he did Lotus' favorite.
A crack sounded out from behind him and Lotus sped up, chuckling under his breath.  The young adult jumped over a rather tall tree root, having to use his levitation magic to his advantage for a second as to not topple over.

"Getting rusty?" Hot breaths hit the back of Lotus' neck through the fabric of his cloak and he shuttered, his gravity magic faltering.

"Hah!" Lotus' feet hit the ground again and in an instant he took off, trying his best not to cave in and look behind him. "Only when you decide to ditch that ego of yours!"

"Hmm, I'd rather ditch the distance between us." And just like that Lotus felt a grip around his wrists and the sting of bark pressing into his back through his cloak. Rurik smirked down at him, smugness radiating off of him in waves. "Hey, come around here often?" Normally Lotus would ask how Rurik managed to get that damn fast, but his mind was occupied with different details at the moment.

Lotus immediately turned bright red, trying to cover up his stammering with a scoff. "Yes, actually. And it seems my regularly scheduled headache has made its way on time."

"Glad to be of service." Rurik chuckled out, his hands traveling down under Lotus' sleeves and up his arms before pulling back and giving the reaper his personal space. Lotus found himself dismissing the wish that the fabric of his gloves didn't separate them from any direct contact.

The moment there was enough room between them, Lotus found himself striding past Rurik— shoulder lightly bumping the others as he did so. "Shut up— let's just get going, I'm cold."

"As long as you don't cancel your subscription to Roller Prime, Babey." Rurik clicked his tongue and made playful finger guns Lotus' way before giving up the small act and following.

"Why do you have your own room, by the way?" Lotus asked, allowing himself to collapse down onto the shoddy couch beneath him. "I keep forgetting to ask."

"To keep the others safe from me," The Royal Guard huffed out apathetically, "I couldn't care less the reasoning, the privacy is worth it." He pulled out a package of cookies from a hidden compartment, looking them over before shrugging and tossing it back to Lotus. The reaper caught it effortlessly.

"Oh." Lotus responded lamely, the packaging in his hands crinkling slightly. He glanced to the nutrition information to keep himself busy and to save some embarrassment. "How'd you sneak these in here, anyways? Isn't this contraband for you?" He smiled and poked Rurik with the bag once he sat down.
