♥╣CLAY╠♥
"THERE'S BEEN A CHANGE of plans", Alistair Konstantinos spoke begrudgingly.
Loosening his stripped tie and shifting in the executive chair he sat on, he puffed out some more words that had Clay squirming in his seat and his blood boiling like it hadn't before.
"Calandria is opposed to the marriage"
The old bastard had said.
Clay's face remained tout like it had everytime business didn't go as planned or anytime he encountered risks. It was best to remain neutral rather than show emotions like his fraternal twin, Ryder had always done.
He didn't do emotions because they were every person's weakness.
His eyes bore into the man seated in front of him. The Rolex watch and his last name might have fooled people but not him.
The fifty something old in his office right now was nothing but a drowning man holding onto his mother's skirts to escape the inevitable. And he?
Clay had prevented him from drowning years ago. It was a bad investment but being the shrewd business man he was, he had wanted something in return.
No, he had wanted someone in return. Someone he had set his eyes on years ago. Calandria Konstantinos, the raven haired beau that had captured his heart without even trying.
"We had a deal", he spoke sinking in his chair as if the sudden revelation didn't matter.
He wanted her and there was always that nagging feeling in mind that Calandria didn't want him. But who wouldn't want him? Women worshipped the very ground he walked on, they practically licked the very ground he walked on among other things.
Today, God today he had been proven wrong. His future wife didn't want him, what a sick joke after everything he had done for her.
Alistair leaned closer to Clay's glass desk afraid of leaving his prints on it. With a little swallow of nervousness down his meaty neck, he tried to reason with Clay.
"I know we did. I know the rules set in the contract but I was in debt years ago. I wasn't thinking straight...I shouldn't have sold my daughter-"
"What's changed?"
Because something had definitely changed.
This wasn't his first rodeo. He had dealt with conniving business men all his life to know he they calculated their moves and how their brains ticked.
A man didn't leave one pot of honey and move to another if the next one wasn't sweeter than the last.
Either Alistair had gotten a better deal or the old crook just didn't want to repay his debt and how foolish he was if that was the case.
Clay was offering him lifelong happiness for his daughter. He loved her and he would do anything to make her happy. Name any guy who would do that.
Alistair's barely noticeable wrinkles stood out, his eyes darted behind Clay's head to the terrific view outside before he decided to speak.
"She's in love with someone else and you of all people shouldn't try to stop that considering the fact that your parents' marriage was based on love"
Pulling the old love-was-important card impressed Clay a little bit. Alistair Konstantinos was using his scruples for once but that didn't mean he was going to give up on Calandria that easy.
Fuck all that bullshit he said. She was in love with someone else? Yeah well, he was in love with her and he saw her first.
"My brother had an arranged marriage and he is now in love with his wife. I don't see your point, Mr Konstantinos. What I see, however, is a man incapable of fulfilling his promises and a man who owes me way more than all his properties combined"
