"WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU lemons, make a fucking lemon cake", Carter hissed throwing a raspberry into his mouth.
Lemons. Whatever Clay Cervantes had offered wasn't something to jest about or to even consider.
Ashton was already taken and let's just say destroying her sister's life by convincing her that Clay Cervantes was the best man in the whole wide world didn't sit right with her.
As much as she hated Andria, Clay wasn't the right man for her. The man she had met that night in their house's backyard was cold and distant.
He spoke about his love for Andria like some mere business project and Brooke didn't like it in the least bit.
Bequeathed with looks that could outmatch those of the Hemsworth brothers, thick lush brown hair, a powerful jaw that would cut through steel and a body so well built that it nearly left her knees buckling; Clay Cervantes was a handsome man but a robot.
"I don't think that's how the expression works", July interrupted Carter.
"Oh you know what I mean Jules. Ashton, didn't work out? So what? He's past tense but Clay. You and Clay friggin Cervantes?"
Brooke laughed. A laugh that choked her. There was no Clay and her. Clay despised her and she on the other hand couldn't look at him the way she did with Ashton.
"I don't think you got this straight, Carter. He. Is. In. Love. With. My. Sister. If I don't help him things go south for me. I'll be forced to-to--"
Jesus to spend the rest of her life with a man who didn't love her.
"Marry him? Will that be too bad, Brooke? Come the fuck on, the guy is a literal Greek God"
He was. He might have been in his past life but she didn't want a man like that.
She needed a man like Ashton. Sweet, caring, muscular and possessive Ashton but thinking about him at the moment dug a hole so deep in her heart that had her chest constricting.
"But a total ass! He made it clear to Brooke that he wasn't in the least bit interested to marry her. That right there is being straight up harsh"
It was but she hadn't heeded much to Clay Cervantes' words.
No.
What she had heeded to, however, was the sick image of her sister buck ass naked against a tree while Ashton drove into her. Now that right there stung her like hell and were it not for her best friends showing up to comfort her, she would have been drowning in her father's wine at that very second.
"Or... dramatic twist. What if he loves Brooke?" Carter shot.
Standing up with a glass of wine in hand, a bathrobe covering her body Brooke laughed.
"He's more grossed out by me rather than head over heels for me"
"Brooke we've been over this"
Sweet brunette July Denvers gave her the pitiful eyes.
"W-what happened last week goes to show I was right. S-she's better than me, she takes the spotlight and everything... absolutely everything. Ashton was the one thing I had to myself and she--she..."
The tears came again and she ignored them drinking her entire glass of pinot noir before pouring another.
"You are beautiful, okay? You deserve happiness too, Brooke"
"No", she shook her head, placed her glass down before she took a full bottle of Jack and dunked it down her throat.
"Hey, easy tiger", Carter made an attempt to move to where she stood but Brooke had already taken four more steps away from him with the bottle tight in her hands.
