Derek's house burnt to the ground in flaming pile of ashes nine hours ago. He didn't know that it would happen, he sure as hell didn't mean for it to happen but somehow it was all his fault. Nobody else could know. So he ran, setting the world alight everywhere he went. He wasn't sure if his family were still alive, all he knew was that he was scared and it wasn't a very good feeling. Fear wasn't an emotion Derek was familiar with. He never let himself feel it, not once.
Now it was as if it was all pouring down on him at once. With fire at his command and no control what-so-ever Derek has no clue what to do next. Did he even deserve to live? Should he jump off a cliff and save everyone else? Would it make it any easier?
He was an outcast among others, even if they didn't know it yet. It was almost three months before he found someone like him. A girl named Leena. She managed to stop him from setting a bank alight on accident.
Leena takes him to a refuge for people like him and to Derek it is the best thing that could of ever happened to him. There is a total of 19 people including him at the refuge. Who knew if there were more, who knew how good they were at hiding themselves?
Derek is taught control and through determination and diligence he soon masters his element. One afternoon while practising he felt a tug and next thing he knew it was water at his fingertips instead of fire. Was he the one they were looking for?
