Everything was already abuzz with the news when we got to school on Monday morning, and by the end of the day, rumors and assumptions were flying everywhere. There were three new guys at the school, all juniors. Of course, everyone was interested. Everyone needed to know who they were, where they came from, and why they were here.
Some people knew them from before. That's how everyone got the information on them. They were dangerous and secretive but always worked together in a group. Rumor had it they were involved in a fight group as well.
"So you think one of those guys is the one that moved in across the street?" Dylan asked as we walked down the hall.
"Yeah. I saw someone, the same height and build, walking around the porch the other day. And then, three guys came over to the house last night and didn't leave until really late."
"Geez, I forgot how observant you could be," he chuckled, opening his locker to put his books in.
I smiled.
"Wait, you said there were three others?"
"Yeah, the other one probably goes to a different school or something. Maybe that's where they all were before they moved, and the one just decided to stay there for some reason or another."
"Possibly." Dylan shrugged. "But I guess we'll never know."
I nodded. "Yeah, I guess."
We said our goodbyes and Dylan headed off to his class across campus. I took my time, chatting with a few other classmates about the new guys. Suddenly, the hall around us went silent. Everyone turned toward the front of the hallway, and I followed their gaze. Holy crap. That was an imposing sight.
Like my thoughts had conjured them out of thin air, the subjects of all of the gossip and rumors walked into the building. All three of them were tall, well over six feet, so they towered over the average person. They were all walking together, not talking, not smiling, and not showing any kind of emotion. The one in the center was the one in charge, and he looked exactly like the guy I saw walking around the house across the street. He had dark hair and a lean but toned build. The hints of some tattoos were barely visible under the edges of his t-shirt.
The guy to his left had the same lean build, but a lighter brown hair color. The one to the right seemed, softer, almost. He had a stocky build, with light blonde hair and piercing blue eyes that I could see from a distance. Each one of them was carrying some sort of weapon, concealed, of course, but visible to someone who has been trained to scan and assess each target.
I stepped back to let them pass, watching them the entire time. There was something suspicious about them, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Throughout the rest of the day, I heard more and more about the boys. My next-door neighbor was Ryder, the light-brown-haired one was Tony, and the blonde softy was Cameron. They had all grown up together, in the same group, and there were indeed four of them in their main group. No one knew much about their personalities or their personal lives, since they rarely let anyone inside their little group. This new group was the only thing that everyone was talking about for the entire day.
Dylan met me at the door to my classroom at the end of the day, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Did you have any of them in your classes today?"
I shook my head.
"Lucky," Dylan groaned. "I swear, even the teachers are sucking up to them way too much."
"What makes you say that? What happened?"
"It's like they are getting free passes everywhere. A couple of people were talking about how they were getting away with things, talking in class, being late to class, whatever. Small things, but it's weird. I don't know."
