Edward had always been alone. People found him strange, weird...repulsive. No matter how he'd tried all his life, no one seemed to like him. Until she arrived. Another forensic accountant straight out of university brought to help him with his workload. She was beautiful, so much so that the first time they met Edward just nodded as he was introduced to her. He couldn't even look at her. He felt as if his disgusting gaze would taint her somehow. That first day, she noticed how the other workers, particularly the men, treated him. Throwing paper and making jokes at his expense as if they were still in middle school and not grown men with degrees. She was sweet to him even though he'd been so standoffish before, reminding him they probably peaked when they were in college. She put her hand on his shoulder and rubbed her thumb comfortingly as she spoke to him. She... She touched him. The only contact he'd really gotten from women his whole life was from nuns at the orphanage or an accidental hand brush when receiving a receipt.
That night, when Edward got home, he immediately looked up her name. He found all her social media, her phone number, and even her address. He scrolled through all of her photos and posts, trying to absorb everything he could about her. Hobbies, what music she liked, places she frequented. I mean, it was easy with how much information she'd put about herself online. Her small act of kindness towards him had kick-started an obsession. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't stop himself. He NEEDED her.
But what he didn't know was she wasn't as pure and lovely as he thought. She preyed on men like him. Loners, losers, weirdos, and the outcasts of the outcasts of Gotham simply because she liked the attention, using them for her own self gratification. Oh, how she loved how they worshiped her just from showing them even a little bit of kindness, and Edward was already falling into her trap.
