18th July 2132.

We have been counting down the days since May 11th . In three days' time is the day the government predicts we have run our earth dry, next week we will no longer be a modern society. No materials to make power or fuel and not enough time to create a new option. You would think we would save it for important things like saving lives or creating a better future, but no most people have become obsessed with making the most of it before it runs out, stealing it from the next person before they steal it from them. Nobody could believe it at first but that quickly turned into a craze that the world was ending. Mankind made it many centuries without any modern-day technology, we just have to go back to the basics of fire for light and warmth and finding or catching our own food. It won't be easy but we can do it again. Right?

"Honey, after breakfast when you go to the supermarket be careful. Everyone has gone crazy but if we don't go now, there will be nothing left." My mother Natalee said with a panicked look on her face as she pierces her lips together, even from the other side of the dining table I can see she's a mess. She's panicked by everyday things but now that things are changing, she can't hide the fact that she feels scared that everything is out of her control. Her long brown hair is usually down enhancing her curls but the stress has gotten to her, it's been in a messy bun for the last week that gets worse by the day, just like the bags under her blue eyes. Were almost identical besides my extra height and a 30-year age difference.

Caleb on the other hand he looks like our father, tall with straight blonde hair and pretty built for someone who has barely worked out a day in his life. He's an older brother which makes him a protector right? You couldn't be more wrong. He seems to think this is all a sham run by the government to get control over us, nobody knows anything for sure, he could be right but if he's not we should be prepared for the worst. I can't imagine what everyone will do once it happens, everyone's out of control now and I can't see it getting any better before it gets worse, a lot worse...

"Sophie, get your brother off of that game. He can't be wasting power like that." Caleb won't listen to anything mum says, that's why it's become my job to try and keep him in line. He doesn't listen to me any better, I think she just doesn't want the confrontation. As I get up from the dining table my chair squeaks and my mother jumped, she's so on edge like a dry noodle about to be stepped on. I made my way down the dark passage way following the noise of Caleb's games till I reached the door.

"Mum said to get of your game." I knew this wasn't going to work but to try and keep some peace in this house, I had to try.

"Just you wait Sophie, in a week's time you'll see nothing will have changed and everyone went crazy for nothing." He snapped at me as he put his headset back on. I guess that's the end of that, I know I didn't try very hard but what if he's right. I can't shrug the feeling that none of this feels unplanned, how could we allow ourselves to run out of resources without another plan. I turned away and shut his door in a hope it dampens the noise and mum won't notice. I walk back to the dining table to finish my coco pops, dads gone so I assume he's left to go shopping. The supermarket is always busy but a few days away from what everyone thinks is the end of the world, I'll be surprised if he makes it back in one piece.

I want to help mum because like I said before it's better to be prepared for the worst. The local camping store is only a few blocks down the road so I think it would be a good idea to see if I can find anything usual there. I grab jacket on the way out just in case although it's a nice day I wont think I will be needing it. It looks like all laws have been thrown out the window as cars are going well above the speed limit and no ones even watching the traffic lights. I'm about a block away and can see the store from here, it seems everyone has had the same idea as me, there's people everywhere.

As I walk in there are people running everywhere with a trolley full or their arms are full of as much as they can carry. If you didn't believe the world was ending this sight would for sure change your mind. However it may not be ending because of resources but we are going to end it one way or another. A young lady shoved past me with a portable cooker and ran out the door, by the looks society has already ended nobodies paying for anything. I must however join the craze if I don't want to miss out, I grabbed a trolley and started filling it with everything I thought would be usual; cooking items, anything that can be used to create warmth on a cold night. within ten minutes my basket was full and people started eyeing off a few of my items as they disappeared from the shelves. I started to feel unsafe and wanted to get out as fast as I could, I grabbed my trolley and made a run for it.

Halfway out the door and an older man grabbed me in an attempt to take everything I had found. I struggled but it wasn't getting me anywhere as he had a tight grip, more people started to come over and I was about to give up for the safety of my own life. Just as I let go a young man with luscious brown hair long on top and short round the side through himself at the man. With his slim build it was an unfair fight, but I wasn't going to lose my chance to run.

Halfway home and my heart was starting to go back to a normal rate, I was excited to get home and feel safe. I can say for sure now that the world ending no matter the outcome in three days time. We will never go back to the same society either way.
