Am I fully satisfied with how this story went? Not really. Which is probably a first. I had some crazy ideas for it, none of which really made sense, and honestly I was more tempted to discontinue it than I'd ever been because I just didn't know how best to carry it out.
This is the ending that I decided on. If it was not satisfactory for you, either, then I apologize. I knew from the beginning I'd struggle writing a Damon story. I didn't anticipate how much trouble it'd give me. That being said, I do think I made it interesting even if it may not have gone the way I initially planned. I enjoyed writing it, and I enjoyed taking you all on Maribel's journey. I usually make my OCs STEM majors in some way when they are in college, but this was the first time I tried to make it a bigger deal, and it was honestly pretty fun to do it.
After Maribel killed Kai, I would confirm the following two things would happen:
-Caroline carried the baby (babies!) to term, and she, Stefan, Jo, and Alaric would all be wonderful parents for them. Kai and the Gemini Coven would not be a problem. Because of Jo's link to Maribel and her 'death' that prevented her from being able to carry the children again safely, they were not attached to Gemini Magic and would not have to Merge. In summary, Maribel's plan worked better than she anticipated.
-Damon and Maribel went off on their own, eager for the adventures they always craved, and free of judgment just like they wanted. Maribel would eventually become a published and renowned geneticist, changing her name every few decades and curing many things aside from cancer.
I always thought Damon was meant to remain a vampire and/or make a huge sacrifice at the end! At least for this story, I can say with certainty that Damon would stay as a creature he enjoyed being. And even better, Stefan would not be a Ripper anymore, so he'd be happy as a vampire, too.
