Part 35: Transformation's Cost! To Continue the Fight?!

We open with Daniel and Chiaki at the home of his mother. Daniel sips some tea as he listens to a nearby radio.

Radio: And we just recieved word that there were no known casualties of the recent Deadman attack. Fenix's troops have ensured they shall find the criminals.

Daniel: I should've been there.

Chiaki: Not after what you told me.

Daniel mentally kicks himself.

(Flashback)

Daniel is packing in his room at the group's house in Mistral. He feels someone tap his shoulder and turns to see George Goldenrod.

George: Hey. We need to talk about this.

He picks up the Demons Driver and examines it.

Daniel: What do you mean?

George: You've been in pain when you transform as of late, right? I looked into this particular Driver.

Daniel: I thought you built it.

George: I adjusted it for human use. My late father designed it as a device to apparently contain a Demon. I figured I could use the power of the Demon to create a Kamen Rider. But... That apparently came with a cost. Before we left Atlas, I did some tests. Your body has been heavily affected by the Demon. It's been deteriorating your organs. At the moment, I'd say they've reached the level of a 60 year old.

Daniel stares in shock.

George: I should've anticipated something like this. But I do not recommend to transform anymore. There's no telling when your next transformation will be your last.

(End of Flashback)

Daniel: I feel so useless...

Chiaki: That's not true.

She gives him a small peck on the cheek.

Chiaki: You've risked your life for a long time to fight the Grimm and Deadmans.

An older woman walks in. With her indigo hair, it's quite obvious she's Daniel's mother.

Mrs. Dunkel: Even heroes should take a breather.

Daniel: But... After what I was told, I won't be able to fight alongside my friends.

Mrs. Dunkel: Your father said something similar when he hurt himself at work.

They look at a picture of a man with a black buzz cut and Atlesian high ranking uniform.

Mrs. Dunkel: I see a lot of your father in you. His courage... His determination... And of course his big heart.

Daniel: I want to be a man he could be proud of. That's why I took the first opportunity to join Fenix.

Mrs. Dunkel hugs her son.

Mrs. Dunkel: I know your father would be proud of you. And so am I.

Daniel hugs his mother back and smiles.

Daniel: Thanks, Mama...

Chiaki gives a small giggle.

Chiaki: Sorry. It's just cute to see your softer side.

Daniel lets go of his mom and blushes.

Mrs. Dunkel: So how long will you be in Argus?

Daniel: Until our other friends get here. We had to separate during a Grimm attack. But once they're here, we're hoping to get the Atlas Border Control to let us through with the embargo.
