Claire walked into the classroom with twenty minutes to spare and gasped at what she saw, her heart dropping to her stomach. A blonde headed woman sitting in Elvis' lap with their arms wrapped around each other and sharing a passionate kiss. Elvis' eyes fluttered open at hearing Claire and immediately pushed the woman off of him at seeing her standing in the doorway

"Claire, I-"

"What the hell, Elvis!? You're only loyal to me? Then who's this skank you were kissing?!"

"I'm his ex fiancé, sweetheart." The woman crossed her arms over her chest and glared right at her

Claire shook her head and ran down the crowded hallway, ignoring Elvis' pleas that echoed after her. She ran out of the building and to the parking lot where her car was parked, unlocking the vehicle and getting in. She started up the car and drove off in a hurry, her eyes flooded with tears. She was too distracted by the betrayal that she didn't see a delivery truck driving down the road to her left and made impact with her car

She tried opening her eyes at hearing faint noises around her. Sirens in the distance, what seemed to be murmurs of concerned people. She completely blacked out at feeling a hand come into contact with her cheek

When she did eventually wake, she found herself to be laying on a bed in a room that was purely white and smelled of cleaning products. A hospital. She was in a hospital. Claire glanced down at her body expecting to see a cast on her legs and IVs hooked into her arms only to her surprise there were none. Though her left arm was in a sling. She took a deep breath before sitting up, her body aching with slight discomfort. No doubt she'd be sore for awhile. A doctor walked in with a worried Elvis trailing behind, both looked relieved to see she was awake. "Claire, you're going to be sore for at least a few weeks. Someone upstairs must be looking out for you since there's not a single thing wrong with your body other than having a minor concussion. I advise you take it easy on reading and monitor your screen time. If you have any questions or concerns just call and we'll try our best to help."

Claire looked to Elvis briefly when it was just the two of them in the dull room. Elvis shook his head. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. You got hurt because of me."

"Go back to your ex, Elvis."

"I don't want her, Claire. I want you."

"Yeah? Then why were you kissing her?"

"Mary Ann forced herself onto me and I got wrapped up in her affection....look, it's all a mess. But I'm being honest when I say I'd rather be with you than anyone else."

Claire slowly shook her head and winced as she got up from the bed. "I can't do this anymore, Elvis. You broke my trust." She shooed his hands away from helping her

"Baby, please. Give me another chance."

She scoffed and arched her brows at him. "I can't. You hurt me deep, Elvis. You don't deserve my love. Now please leave me alone, I don't need you or anyone's help." And with that, Claire left the hospital room and made her way down to the lobby to pay for her bill. Part of her felt bad for how she turned Elvis away but she wasn't going to be treated like a disposable dame to any man

Claire had most of her assignments from her classes emailed to her for the time being and it was mostly nice not having to leave her apartment to go to the campus and her professors were very understanding about the situation. However, she rarely got emails from Elvis which concerned her regardless if they weren't on good terms right now. She picked up her phone and sent him a text after emailing one of her professors a journalism assignment she had finished

'Hi Professor Presley. I was wondering if there's any new assignments for Literature? I haven't gotten any emails from you for two weeks.'

She waited patiently for a response, reading a text that came through minutes later

'Claire, I told you to call me Mr. Presley. And I haven't sent you anything due to taking a short leave though I find it odd that my substitute hasn't sent you any assignments. Perhaps you should get a hold of the university.'

'Elvis. Two weeks isn't a short leave.' She replied rapidly to his message

He never responded back to her. Great. Claire got in touch with the university about not receiving any work from her Literature class and was told it should be resolved shortly. She decided to catch up on work for her other classes for the time being, her mind occasionally wandering back to Elvis. She returned to campus after another week and it felt good to see her fellow peers again, some had given her get well soon cards which brightened her day even more. When it was time for her Literature class, Elvis still wasn't there. A robust older man who for the life of him couldn't teach fleas to jump. It made Claire wonder how this guy was even a substitute for a college professor and who hired him. Class was dismissed very early due to Mr. Brainless not having any assignments or notes to give out which was questionable considering how Elvis always planned things ahead of time

Claire had heard rumors around campus about Elvis going downhill in regards to taking care of himself and possibly losing his job, immediately walking as fast as she could to the parking lot. She needed to see him and talk a bit of sense to get him back on track and straighten out this mess

Very short chapter, it sucks I know
