Chapter 20: Dust

A/N: So I don't usually put these at the very beginning, but I have a request:

Listen to the song.

This is one of the original songs that inspired this fanfic, I feel like it will add a lot of depth to this chapter.

Now then, carry on reading~

Surprisingly, the next couple days were quiet. Nothing supernatural appeared in the news-at least nothing interesting anyway. I spent the time straightening up books that we had thrown around whilst researching during previous cases and doing laundry because my clothes were piling up. Despite the life we hunters lived, we still had to do chores.

The boys were far less enthralled and motivated to get it done, so it took some coaxing to get them off their asses, Dean more than Sam or Cas or even Kevin.

"Winchester you've been without someone to do your laundry since you were a kid-what makes you think I'm gonna do it for you," I scolded flicking Dean on the nose. He recoiled, playfully glaring at me.

"Fine, your majesty," he retorted, rolling his eyes as he got up off of his bed, sweeping past me.

"I see I've been upgraded to a queen-perfect," I hummed, winking at him when he turned around and gave me mischievous look before disappearing out the door and around the corner.

Picking up the warm basket of clothes I had just pulled out of the drier, I padded down the hall to the main room, setting the basket down and began folding. I would've put some music on, but Kevin was still busy with the one tablet we did have, and I didn't wanna disturb him.

The thing was, it wouldn't have made much of a difference. The peaceful afternoon atmosphere of the bunker was interrupted when Sam came racing down the hall, bursting into the room- laptop in hand, causing Kevin to jump nearly out of his chair and causing me to knock the now empty basket off of the table.

"Jesus Sam," I gasped, reaching down and picking the basket back up, setting my now folded clothes in it so I could take them back to the room I shared with Dean.

"Considering I've been possessed by Satan, Jesus is something I'm very far from being," he retorted. I looked up at him, startled, but he waved his hand dismissively.

"Never mind-but I think I've found something worth looking into," he replied handing me his laptop. Damn, he was good at finding us cases. Although we had only had a few days of downtime, I was itching to go somewhere, but I would soon find the place we were going was somewhere I didn't want to return to.

Setting the laptop down in front of me I scrolled to the top of the page. The headline made my heart stop:

Ghastly Figures Spotted Around Downtown Nashville

The picture was a shaky image of what appeared to be a rather eerie, almost transparent figure standing in a side alley. According to the article, other similar figures had been spotted standing on the tops of buildings and on street corners.

"Reapers," a rough voice said from behind us. Next thing I knew I was being blindsided by a trench coat as Cas leaned over and took the laptop from me, studying the image.

"Don't they usually gather before some kind of big event or something," Kevin said wearily looking up at Cas. He nodded.

"Meaning we should probably haul ass down there to see what's going on." We all looked up to find Dean standing in the doorway leading to the hallway, seemingly having overheard everything we had just said.
