2 Days Later
I sit in my living room, drawing a tick on my right arm. 18 people saved. 5 people dead. I closed my eyes.
"Couldn't save him?" Silver sighed, sitting beside me.
"When we were in the hospital, you said everything would change."
"Whose to say it hasn't?"
"I guess your right."
I sat on my couch as Silver made dinner. I thought about what I did wrong and closed my eyes. I thought about where I last put my blade, but I remembered a flushed it. I don't think I have any sharpeners. Silver came in with the food.
"We are like the King and Queen of hearts." Silver put on the British Bake off.
"More like heads." I chuckle.
"It's like the weight of people's lives are on our--"
"Did you just say that we were married?"
"What?"
"Well, King and Queen. They would be married."
"Did you just ignore what I said after that..?"
"We made an agreement not to pair ourselves with each other."
"I didn't mean to say King and Queen, I just meant it like cards."
"Oh. Okay then." I shrug.
"Look, this has happened a ton of times before."
"What had, you paired up with me or-"
"The other thing."
"Oh yeah, I don't like it. It feels like you have weight on your shoulders that you need to lift, but can't."
"I know." she shrugged. "At least we get to go back to studies tomorrow."
"Yeah."
The Next Day
The bell for the end of the day rang. As I was walking out, I got pushed into the wall by a gang. I sighed and kept walking. I stayed in the car waiting for Silver. I heard the door open.
"Yeah, night!" She giggled, closing the door behind her. She was talking to a guy and I looked at her.
"Who's he?"
"Why do you care? Your not my boyfriend." She crossed her arms and looked out onto the road. I started the car and started driving home.
"His name is Makai." She said sharply. I stayed silent. As I pulled into our spot, she got out and slammed the door. I lay back in my seat and sigh. I put on the radio and listen to it.
"Breaking News as 2 murders took place near Humber College." I sit up in my seat. That's where Silver and I go. "The murders were said to be done by fake college student, Makai Jones." I stop the car and get out, running up to our apartment. I burst through the door.
