Tap. Tap. Tap... Tap. Tap. Tap.
That is the sound of a student tapping their pencil on a desk frantically trying to remember the answer to the question on the exam. Usually this sound would go unnoticed due to how quiet the noise is, however, there is always an eerie silence in the classroom when an exam is in progress. They all believe that this singular test will determine their future, but these students couldn't be further from the truth. There are far too many variables in each person's life and far too many paths for a person to take. In fact, the government should limit the amount of choices a person is able to make. It makes sense. This would limit the amount of lunkheaded decisions humanity could make but it would also limit the amount of beneficial decisions that could be made as well. Perhaps this ideal doesn't make sense and the government needs to do something else to dictate this country. It certainly seems like the government holds no authority at the moment.
Where am I again? Oh! I remember now. I'm in classroom 5A and I am proctoring a biology exam. There are three minutes remaining till the exam ends. I should probably tell the students but I don't feel like doing that. I just want to see the look on their faces when I say the time is up. Oh, this will be priceless. How wonderful is it that I get to end my work day with the liveliness of the students slowly being drained from their faces. It feels like getting a fat cash bonus a week before Christmas. Fortune has smiled upon me today because after this exam I also get to see my dear friend Bobby. I've known Bobby for what seems like all my life. We always talk sports and about our great achievements. Today I plan to tell Bobby about the fancy little coffee shop I found on North Patrick street.
RING RING RING
"Students please turn in your papers and you may retrieve your phones from the box. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon!" This is what I said to the teenagers in the room as I collected their exams and ushered them out the classroom knowing wholeheartedly that I didn't mean the last part one bit.
