She stumbled through the drowning flowers trying to find her way home. Home was far away from this evil other worldly place that tortured her with pain from head to toe. So she commanded her bare feet to continue plunging forward through the thick mud. Everything that was once beautiful and peaceful was changed to darkness when nature struck. The sky threatened to be filled with light only to disappear once more. Was this fresh or salt water that filled her eyes and blurred her vision? If it were not for the lump in her throat she would not be able to tell the difference.

She tripped on a broken branch and fell to her knees. She waited for the pain yet again but it did not come as the kind sand cushioned her fall. She felt a sense of accomplishment as she sat there looking around at her new surroundings. The mood of the shore was still dark but there was a sense of hope.

She continued to stand in the rain with the wet sand splashing onto the bottom of her wrecked jeans, watching the dark raging ocean that fought against the wild wind. ‘Will they come’, she wondered to herself. She heard a bird just before she heard a siren that did not belong to the world she had been living in for the past three weeks. She looked up and the hope she felt was confirmed and was turned to joy. “They have come”, she whispered.
