Matty Garcia

5:04pm

it's 2019 I'm 23 years of age, gosh I'm getting older.

I'm sat in this diner the one my father brought me as a kid.

'It's the birthday girl!' I hear from the entrance of the diner.

I look over seeing the girl dressed in a slick black dress walking over to me I turn away rolling my eyes.

'Matty what's wrong with you today?' I hear her say,'you're 23 today losen up my love'.

'That's exactly it, why are you making such a big deal? it's just my birthday.' I throw her off.

'Oh c'mon let's go have fun!' She smacks her arms on my shoulders 'no more smoking pot tonight.'

I groan she's pulls me off the seat.

'C'mon then matty time to have fun' gosh Enid always has to be so annoying she drags me out the restaurant to her car.

Enid's my blonde friend she's been there for me since I was like 6 years old we met in primary school I didn't have any friends but after that she stuck with me I have no idea why.

She's so perfect I still don't know why she's always so dressed up, I wish I had this girls confidence.

'Pretty girl' she says to me while we are driving down the quiet streets.

'What do you want' I groan at her.

'Why are you so fucking grumpy' she yells at me

I don't reply I just turn up the radio.

*Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hendrix* playing on the radio

'I love this song!' Enid says bopping her head.

' I love this song to! It's our song!' I smile at her with my slight tooth gap showing

"Our song" She smiles at me reaching out to my hand

My dad use to play this on the radio for me and Edin as kids and we would dance to it on repeat and my dad would dance with us in circles around his old crusty coffee table.

"Well, I stand up next to mountain"

'Why do you like him so much Enid' I look over at her singing the lyrics

"And I chop it down with the edge of my hand"

'Because it's Jimi Hendrix! he's the best sing with me Mat!'

"Well I stand up next to a mountain"

We both sing the lines coming from the radio.

I actually love Enid I don't think I would be here with out her she's my saver.

"And I chop it down with the edge of my hand"

She holds my hand and looks at me quickly with her other hand on the stearing wheel, quickly looking back at the road leading up to my house.

'Why are you bringing me home?' I look at her.

'Because you live alone and I don't'. She giggles

'That's not true my dad' i say looking at her.

'Your dad isn't even in town at the moment, so you're living alone.' She smiles at me.

"I don't mean to take up all your sweet time"

Enid sings one more time before pulling into my drive through.

I smile at her while she stops the engine grappling her keys while I jump out of the car.
