Larissa was on the train only a few stations away from Vermont her final destination. And though there were around 50 other students -most older and one or two her age- she was sitting alone on a window. Her parents never really had time for her and so it came, that she had to take the train.
'It's fine' she thought and sighed.
Her parents were actors in the sixth generation, but they weren't even shapeshifters. The gene was quite rare and recessive, meaning mixing it with normal human genes, which were dominant, had caused her to bee the only shapeshifter since her grand grand grandmother, who had been the daughter of two shapeshifters. But because of a well kept family tree and history, every family member knew the acting had started because of the shapeshifting. And as it had gotten clearer and clearer Larissa was the first one in generations, she had hoped for more attention of her parents, but they still had only eyes for keeping the dynasty alive, forgetting she was part of it. They instead had decided to send her off to Nevermore a school for outcasts.
'It probably is for the better anyway' she thought as she shouldered her backpack and took her suitcase out of the luggage shelf of the train apartment.
She struggled to the exit and left hold of her breath as she finally stood outside the train station. She slowly walked over to the other students who had found themselves in a group, looking towards a school bus which had just circled the corner. As it arrived a beautiful looking woman with blonde hair and friendly smiling brown eyes, her huge fangs marking her as a vampire.
"Welcome and welcome back to Nevermore, for everyone who doesn't know me yet, I'm Ms Mircea Karnstein, your sports and fencing teacher and for now your bus driver to Nevermore, so please if you all get your luggage in the trunk and get in the bus as fast as possible."
Larissa was still standing a bit more beside the group, which had already started to move, four people sorting in the luggage and the other already getting in.
"Sorry, can I get your luggage?"
"What?" Larissa must have been daydreaming as she looked down to the girl who had asked her.
"Your luggage needs to be in the trunk, can I help you with it?"
"Yes, sorry, thank you" Larissa still perplexed, shook her head in agreeing and handed her her suitcase.
The girl took it, her dark brown ponytail wiping behind her, ever curl somehow having its own rhythm, as she placed it onto another bag. Larissa pushed the last lose strings from her backpack inside the trunk and the girl shut it close right afterwards. Larissa went in first, taking a seat right at the front.
The girl who had helped her sat down beside her "hi" she said giving her a hand to greet, "my name is Daniela, it's my second year but I guess you're a first year"
Larissa blushed and shook Daniela's hand "I'm Larissa."
"I know it's hard to go alone, especially on your first year, I was alone too, but that was more so because my parents don't own a car that could bring as here and the school was only okay for paying for one train ticket. You now may ask yourself where I'm from and 'wow I'm sorry you're so pure', but people don't understand that we aren't poor we are just native Brazilians and normally not in need of much money..." Daniela continued talking and talking and they didn't even notice how fast time had run, as the bus stopped in the schools parking area.
Daniela had like every other not first year student only one piece of luggage and after getting her backpack, she again helped Larissa. As Daniela went up to her room, Larissa was left alone with a werwolf guy to help her. Larissa signed, she knew, she could do it alone, if she had more control over her ability. The senior year student placed her suitcase down by her bed and left the room with a near to silent goodbye.
Larissa fell down onto her bed and closed her eyes, she was exhausted. A ghost like air brushed her legs and as she opened her eyes an elegant girl all dressed in black, her hair perfectly braided into two even pigtails, was standing between her legs.
Larissa jumped up, bumping full force into the girl. "Who are you?" She asked feeling the girls breath on her chest.
She wanted to move backwards but the bed frame was already pressed against her lower leg, taking every chance for space.
Two dark brown eyes with gold-copper accents eyed her up and down "I'm Morticia Frump, your roommate" she finally answered and stepped back, making it possible for Larissa to actually look at her "you must be Larissa Weems, Mrs Bouda already told me your name."
Larissa smiled, moving a hand through her long white blonde waves, "that's me" '-that's me?? Are you kidding, oh my lord I wanna die' she thought and closed her eyes.
"Do you need help unpacking?" Morticia asked
"-No! No, it's fine" Larissa declined, turning around to start unpacking, her face still covered by a bright red.
